View Full Version : So, do you think a 18x9 35mm offset wheel can be stuffed under a lowered B7?.....

Just goofing around on wheel sites and came across some wheels offering in that size. I know the Stasis guys are running 19x9 I believe but I am not familiar with there offset. I think for a $200 per wheel and keeping weight down with the 18's, it wouldn't be a bad choice. Plus I like the chunky look of an 18' wheel with the right offset and lowered.
Here's an example of the wheel I spotted....

OK, so here are the specs on the OEM 19x9 +29 offset rs4 wheels.
In essence, the 18x9 35 offset should technically work.
The higher offset brings the wheel inside more. Correct?
Though I guess it depends on the wheel design as well.
Hmm???
Is anyone running a 9 wide 18' wheel???

Phenominal....
What size tires are you running?
Also, can you get away with a slightly chunkier tire if you dont like the streched look?
Do you have more close ups of your wheels??

I'm on a 225/40... Yeah, you could get away with a chunkier tire, but I wouldn't... I have had a full car and don't rub at all... I think the tire setup is perfect...

WOW! 225 tires on 9 wide!!!
I'm not too familiar with the performace factor of a stretched tire.
I'm all about the performance side as well.
Does the sidewall collapse under hard cornering with a stretched tire???
More pics please.
Thanks!

Stasis also runs 265/35/19 tires on those 19x9. I'm in the same boat as you quattshot. I want to run a bigger wheel but in 18's though. I don't want that shaking front end syndrome when going to 19's.
I'm currently running 18x8.5 et35 with 235/40/18 tires. Every once in awhile going up steep driveways my right rear rubs very slightly onto the inner fender liner. What's weird though is at the track under extreme cornering, that one tire doesn't rub.
Anyway, I'm planning to sell my current rims and tires. I really want to order some 18x9 DPE GT7 or Forgeline ZX3R. I'd feel more comfortable running a 38 offset though. There's a set of Rennworx wheels for sale in the classifieds 19x9 et38. As for tires, I'm going with 255/35/18. You can find more brand options with a 265/35 but with a 255 I have a better chance of not rubbing.

Ahh yes, a fellow tracker.
Wonderful, what brand of tire are you going with in 255?
lol, lots more articulation in a steep driveway. You can call it an extreme offcamber quick chicane.
So your going for custom wheels? Seems like it's the only way to get that right offset, width combo plus forged.
Funny, I had 19' Iforged wheels for the B5 S4 and though they looked super sexy, night and day difference from the Champion multispoke 18's and I ain't talking in a good way. The 19's disapointed me a great deal.

I'm still not sure what tire to go with but Michelin PS2's are my back up tire if I can't find anything less expensive and stickier.
Yeah, I'm going with custom wheels because they'll be the only ones to make those extreme measurments for our car. OZ, BBS, Enkei, and so on make nice lightweight wheels but are only 8" wide.
Btw, I'd stay away from Iforged from now on. I heard thru a wheel shop owner whom I'll leave nameless, that iforged wheels are known to be warped even when new.[eek] That was one of the reasons why he dropped iforged from his line up of custom wheels. One other reason was the consistency in bad customer service too.
What wheels are you planning to get?

I'm running OZ Ultraleggeras (18x8 with a +35mm offset) on 240/40/18 tires. I'm sittin' at about 25.75" all the way around. The front will rub if I go over any mild to significant dips or bumps, but it is fine road-racing it.
BTW Spidee -- off topic, but I was very impressed with your camera setup! I ordered that camera mount that you are using -- can't wait to test it out!

Yeah, I had my days with the Iforged company. The wheel was gorgeous but customer service was ugly. Never again.
It looks like I'll go custom wheels as well. I've been researching alot of autocross and road race forums. One company I'm thinking about is....http://www.kodiakracingwheels.com/wheels.html
We will see. I do like the stepped lip. I know it makes the center spokes look smaller but I dont mind. Also, here is another site that you might be interested in........http://www.raceoptics.com/?gclid=CPXSz7GbwIsCFRevgAodlRWKwQ
You can purchase mulitple cameras, for instance one for your feet so you can check out your heel/toe skills. Once more then one camera is hooked up, it split screens it. Cool stuff PLUS, you will NEVER get the dreaded wind noise again!!
I'm headed to the Grand Am races at Homestead this weekend. My buddy Chip races for a N.C. based Mazda RX8 team. He competes AGAINST the SpeedSource RX8 Team.

since we are talking about this, i want to ask this when you go to the 19's is when you get the shaking steering wheel thingy? because that sucks and if that is the case, ill go 18" let me know people please, those of you who have 19's and dont shake and those of you who do shake.
thanks

Yes, I run a 20x9 ET35 all around with ZERO problems.

With all due respect, you can run same width tire on 8" as you would 8.5". That .5" difference is weight saving... Take advantage of it if weight is a concern to you.

can be due to a few things....not necessarily because of the size...
1. unbalanced wheel
2. wheels are bent
3. wheels are out of round
4. bad allignment
5. some stepped lip design wheels are known for this problem in some weather condition
you'd probably want to check first 3 things listed first...

So definitely has nothing to do with staggered fitments?
Also, I might put in your check list, tire brand as far as sloppy or softer sidewalls.
My old Iforged wheels were round with no distortion.
The 19's gave my car a sloppy feel when changing directions on the highway.
Not a good feeeling. So I was thinking it was either tire choice, which I forget what they were or the staggered fit, which I'll never do again. I'm over the whole give my AWD car a RWD look.lol[:)]

Gorgeous car.
Now, if I compare your setup to a 18x9 35offset, it's still too close to tell.
Your tire doesn't protrude much at all from your wheel even at 8.5 wide, though you do have an aggressive offset.Hmmm? The 18x9 wheel with a 245/40/18 would be chunkier and the 3mm difference might not be enough to NOT rub. Though, I would probably trim and roll the hell out of the fenders.
Hmm, I guess there not enough weekend warrior AutoX's and road racers out there with B7's?

the whole staggered idea was discussed many times but..i've seem to keep reading that they really only affect your differentials..as far as sloppy feeling im sure thats different from steering vibration...

i have a staggered setup...i have minor vibrations around 80 but thats about it, other than the normal vibration in the b7's.
