My 98.5 A4 has never had push-down reverse as long as i have owned it.

i just saw in a short shifter thread that it should.


is that correct?

yes you should have it but it is fine if it doesn't, as said above you might have a short shifter already.

no, it is definitely the stock shifter assembly.

and i know it's "OK" that it doesnt require, i was just wondering if anyone had an explanation as to why, can the pushdown reverse be removed?

my shifter does push down, but it does not need to be pushed to shift in or out of reverse.

my old 98 was the same way, it could push down, but did not need to be to go into reverse

yes it can be removed, read the install instructions for any shortshifter.

The shifter base has a lip or a step inside the assembly that may have been broken or worn down. So now the shifter shaft does not have to be pushed down to pass the safety lip.
