I posted this on the b5 S4 thread, someone recommended posting on the b5A4 thread. So can anyone on this thread shed some light on extending keyless remote range:

I have read on this forum and other forums how you can reroute one of the black wires, that usually goes down behind the seat and extends over the gas tank, to take this wire and route it up the back seat and along the seat to increase Keyless remote range.

Problem I have is finding the correct wire without yanking the wrong one and ruining something.

Here is a pick of my backseat:

I used microsoft paint and numbered different area's where I thought the wire is located. 1,2,3,4,5,6

I'm thinking its #2. but this is actually a plastic tube that has 4 or 5 wires inside.

Is one of these the correct wires? I'm sure there are a lot of us who ran into this same problem when trying to reroute this wire to get better range?

your backseat has a metal box under it that mine doesn't so yours might actually have the wire in there while mine (and many others') didn't. if your actually does, you can cross refernce it with my picture here:

to see what wires are different. i can tell you that wires 2 and 3 are in my car so it's probably not them.

I think the layout or something got changed with the facelift, because mine is a 99 and it doesn't have the box either. From what I've heard the antenna wire is in the box.

I've been looking for pre 99.5 instructions for some time. hopefully I can get it to work on my 98.5 because my remote range is WORSE than shitty.

From when i did mine:

Snaked the clear wire (antenna) around the window, along the outside

Antenna "curled" over the top

was very easy, took 20 mins and the hardest part was getting the antenna to stay while putting the pillar back, so tape it in place

thats exactly what i did. i got my wire to stay in place by running it behind two little rubber stoppers (between the window and frame to keep the pillar cover in place)

I'm not an expert at deciphering wiring diagrams...but from what I can tell the antenna wire for the 2000+ models are located at the rear locking control module...under the little storage basket in the trunk on the right. I can check when I get home tonight...but I'm quite sure I do not have one of the boxes under the rear seat like the earlier MYs.

the facelift cars dont have the rear lights on the pillars, they are centered on the cieling in the back near the top of the rear windshield so i dont think it would be in there

Open the key.

Stick it to your neck.

Press unlock button.

Your body works like an antenna which gives you extended range.

I've noticed that when my car is parked and i'm walking to wards the rear passenger side, the remote works from much farther away than it does if i'm headed towards any other side of it, so my guess is it's located somewhere around there.

^^ thats because the antenna is on the rear passenger side. (for your car at least)
