kk today while i was drivin home from school this guy in a 350 z pulls up next to me...he signals after 3 honks and we take off, he absolutely destroys me. ive been up against two other stock 350zs and stayed close with them and beat them by half a car length. at the next light i ask him what hes runnin...he says 575hp, and that he has the only 3.8L in the country, no super or turbo charger just straight engine. and he has nos on top of the base hp. IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE i assume it is but is he lyin or wtf thats crazy lol

he could have the thing ported to a 3.8 (it's possible...) NA plus plenty of NO2 should give you that much power, but will likely destroy the engine very soon considering he's running lots of NO2 on a thinner-walled engine head/block...
probably not a very good combination

Well he could have a 150 shot and other mods like the normal intake, exhaust, a new plenum and chip tuning so with that he could make that with a 150 shotter. NOS is just so caustic to engines, i could never do it to any of my cars.

Definitely. My friend owns Scott Performance, one of the oldest Datsun/Nissan Z shops in the US. He builds amazing stuff for Z's. Their shop car is a 650HP black 350 convertible called the "Black Widow". I've ridden with him at Laguna for a track day. We ate a few full race prep Vipers for lunch! And this thing is an everyday driver!
If I wanted a balanced car that would basically kill almost everything on the street, and a lot on the track, the Z would be the toy. For around $40k, which includes the used car, my friend can build one to the Black Widow's specs. Apparently that car is so overbuilt from the factory with things like carbon fiber driveshafts, it doesn't need to be beefed up much, just bolted on.

VQ35DE engine is not that strong. A very good chance that his "3.8L" will explode after a few thousand miles without a complete internals rebuild with nothing but forged parts. And no, the most you can get out of a NA VQ is probably around the low 400 hp.
I hope you guys raced on a track where you cannot kill innocent people by accident.

I used to own a G35 and know tons of people with hooked up G35's and 350z's so I'll give some input. I HIGHLY doubt that he's pushing that much HP from NA. Most likely, to produce that kind of HP,... he's boosted. CrawfordZ has been trying to get to the 300rwhp (@ the wheels) N/A on bolt-ons alone and many other performance shops have gotten around 300rwhp at the wheels.
Check out www.my350z.com or www.g35driver.com, and you'll see tons of boosted cars. People pushing insane #'s like 600hp+ at the wheels but I question the reliability on those. Conservatively @ ~350-400rwhp, even without rebuilt block, the engine is ok and I have friends that've ran 40k with no problem.
The weak link in the VQ beyond 400rwhp is the rods. Those engines run pretty high compression 10.6:1 stock and not good for Forced induction, so when you push beyond that... you gotta go either rebuild with long or short block, lower compression to something around 8.5:1 or 9:1, and you've got a beast on conservative boost. I have several friends pushing 550rwhp easy. VRT makes daily driven/track capable G35's with 400rwhp... for about $25k (plus cost of G).
So on him N/A... I call BS. Unless using NOS, which is still fairly unachievable given stock only pushes ~220-230rwhp. So you're talking 300+ shot?? [down]
On another note, take it to the track and away from the streets. [up]

We raced a stock 350z with my friend's sti w/ intake and full exhaust. It was disappointing for the Z.....bus legnths. Those cars feel fast down low but their 0-60 and 1/4 #'s suck

My question is...
Why would a modded 350z even want to race an A4? He should pick on someone his own size/class....

Nissan sells a supercharged version of the Z. I believe it has 420 hp. There was one at the Nissan dealership in Valencia, Ca. Peace

no it was from a stop light, there were few other cars, and it wasnt far......if there was any chance of putting another person in danger i wouldnt have done it.

i dont think so man..i used to own a g35 coupe which is about 300 lbs heavier and with ONLY bolt ons, the car is fast, i ran 13.9, my fastest..
The Z, 0-60 in mid 5s and 1/4 time is 13.9-14.1 STOCK...also, keep in mind, sti with intake and FULL exhaust is like chipping an A4....take a stock STI against a bolt on modded 350z and you will see a dead even race or even the 350 pulling...believe me, there are videos of this to back it up too...
here's one..

Please dont do that anyways. Some kids raced stoplight to stoplight near my college a little more than a month ago and ended up running over a lady who was on a wheelchair instantly killing her. Just a few weeks ago an innocent girl (friend of friends) died in a street racing accident about 5 minutes down the freeway from where I live. I'm a very strong advocate of NOT RACING ON THE STREET and taking it to the track.
