to just add a subwoofer, what componets would be needed?

a subwoofer, amplifier. what else?

thanks.

im thinking of putting a sub in sometime in the future. but dont worry, i like things to be done right, so i would be doing a nice looking install--not just a box.

Just the wiring cables for everything. A cheap kit is about $20, but the components (specifically the RCA cables) are very cheap (in build, the heads break off so easily). The MONSTER and or other brand name wiring kits are upwards of $100 and so. If this is a stock deck, you might need some converter things. If this is a aftermarket deck, it all plugs up with RCAs.

is there something called a capacitor or something? is it necessary and what does it do?

what kind of power are you running continuously with your amp? for every 500watts of RMS power, you should have 0.5 farads of capacitance. for a small single-sub-only system, you don't need a cap. as mentioned above, if it's a stock deck, you'll need the blaupunkt rca adapter. do a search on them.
