I know the 1.8T trans is kinda weak so people upgrade to the 2.8L... But how strong is the rear diff, axles, are there clutch's that support over 600whp for the car.. Or even up to 700whp

its not the 1.8t that is "weak" as much as it is the 2.8 is geared differently. the 2.8 has a little bit longer gears where the 1.8 are shorter due to the lack of power. that is why some people with alot of hp switch the the 2.8. as far as i know their are a few people on this fourm running 500awhp+ with no tranny problems, clutch on the other hand is different

Unless you plan on running 2.2+ liters running 40+psi dont expect 600whp. I am pushing the stock driveline at over 500whp but during a launch with DR's the axles and CV's tend to be the weak link.

Plenty of people have looked to make 500+whp but only a very few have done so.

BTW, would that be DR's you have in your sig for "street tires". Because I drove a FWD GTI with just a GT2871r on street tires and it had no traction till 4th gear with a good set of normal street tires and it ran 115mph still spinning in 3rd gear thru the trap.

No im going to keep it 1.8L with 83mm pistons but stock crank, solid lifter so i can rev to 9500, and either a GT4294r or 4088r but most likely 42r...

and no i did it on street tires not drag radials, normal cheap ones with 35psi of air in them just how i drive on the street.. I had traction at the top of 2nd gear at the track....

Solid lifters have been a waste of time(and money) on the 1.8t since there is no real power to be made over 8k because of flow restrictions. Even with a ported AEB head and cams my 500whp peaks before 8k.

You might want to jump on AW and talk to LucasGT or his friends, they went with the Schrick Solid Lifter setup and still dont really go past 8k which means they aren't taking advantage of the solid lifter setup.

yeah i'll have to work something out.. But i can't stand audiworld. i dont even want to look at the forum cause of there stupid layout...
but why dont they go past 8k... With the turbo i'll be getting 9.5k will be the min...

They dont go past 8k because the power falls off really fast, so they just shift to get back into the power band. I have yet to see a A4 1.8t make peak power or good power past 8k.

Here is my dyno pull with the GT35r .82 a/r(2033c built 1.8 block). Note the tq scale is not on the graph.

Welcome!

This guy isn't some newbie asking about throwing some gt55xxxx and making a gazillion horsepower.

I thought you bought a TT not an A4? Your gt35r powered gti was going to be real beast, too bad about that dropped valve.

Newb question here, but you can run a 2.8 liter trans on a 1.8t engine??

Yes. The 2.8 and 1.8 trans use the same 01A housing.

Well i wont be going Schrick Solid Lifter thats for sure... I believe with the right turbo, the right cams, the 1.8T will make power up to 10k..... im going to do it either way.

mike you ever think your turbo is to small..

Heres a dyno of a T4/35R .82

"This was on stock head including valve springs, but with the cat cams." the 3562 cams...

Plus solid lifter cams are much more agressive.[up]

Sure I can go larger but that doesn't mean the car is going to make more power or go any faster at the track.

If you think you can make power to 10k on a 1.8t then good luck to you. So far I can say that the stock valve springs aren't worth anything past 8k.

BTW is that a corrected #'s and FWD on that dyno pull? All of my pulls are uncorrected and I own a AWD with 10% more driveline loss.

That dyno is from a FWD car.... still a lot of power.

Yes it is, but having full boost at 6600 isn't something I would want on a car that has peak hp before 8k which you can see on that dyno.
