Just got a 98 1.8tq today.... finally the search is over. 71k women drove for 68k then sold to man who drove 3k, and its is great shape. yet only complaint is that i didnt notice that it made a sometimes makes a sound when i brake to hard, i can feel vibrations in brake pedal and hear an awful noise coming from front driver side. maybe bad abs? other than that im gonna get the tb outa the way when i get the balls/money to do it then let the mods loose.[drive] oh ya and i took it for a spin up in the hills, quattro>fwd and im think that was the first time that car has seen redline.

Is this the same car you were eyeing in SF? Congrats.

nice man, probably just warped rotors, you can take care of that with an a8 upgrade!

dont htink its control arms because it only happens when i brake hard, and i still can get it to do it everytime i try, just randomly. and no this isnt the same car as SF, that guy moved to london and never called back, this one was from mountain view, less miles and was taken care of very well.

Braking hard + noise + vibrating pedal = ABS? Thats what it sounds like to me. My ABS was pretty loud and vibrating when i kicked it (the pedal) in hard. When it used to work that is.

welcome welcome cheers on your new audi.. very nice mielage..
Rotors and pads probably are gone, also maybe who ever did the brakes before didnt tighten them correctly its possible, i had similar with mine in the begining but when ever i would press the brake it would make like a scrapping or hard brushing sound.. got a look at it and the rottors and pads were gone.. fixed that and am noise free for about 1 year and 2 mothns

My vote is for rotors, especially if its most prevalent at highway speeds. LMK if you wanna go for a drive up highway 9 sometime. I was just up there today and its pretty sweet with quattro.

You also need one-pieces now too.

the 99.5 update is the best visual bang for the buck w/ our 98.5s, but ok, if you say so.

And K04? just see how much money you have when u want to upgrade the engine and consider something bigger, trust me, maybe something like the GT2x , very simple and much more effective than the K04

Maintenance is a given ....
