I hear Kinesis quality might be down a bit since they were bought out. I haven't really seen anything substantive though. Maybe somebody here could share some personal experiences... I know Kinesis used to be top quality.

yea, werent they bought by Lexani? I heard the quality went way downhill after that purchase.
Personally, BBS, OZ and Sportec are my favorite wheels.
I love me a good pair of CH's!

Fikse wheels [up] My personal choice would be the fm10, but all fikse wheels are really nice!

BBS are basically the industry benchmark. Of course you will pay for the name. Nobody will ever question the quality of a wheel with the BBS logo... unless it actually says BB5 [:p]... The CH is nice because its almost stock. But I prefer the RXII and the RGR.
OZ makes some nice looking stuff. I'm not sure if they really are on the same tier as BBS. However, they have some wheels that are priced on the same level. I'd look at the Ultraleggera and Galileo III.
I really love the Sportec wheels, but they are heavy and seriously expensive. As a result, I've been looking at the Neuspeed RS10. Seems to have the same exact design, but it is a forged wheel. Lighter, stronger, and significantly cheaper... seems like a good deal to me.

Did you end up getting the Red centre-caps and/or lug nuts? If so, would you be willing to sell them?
Be unique... go with something you don't see often.
I loved my custom Keskins for that fact alone and now they are sold.
Now I wait for my new wheels to arrive. [:D]

Whatever you do, don't go with a "reversed lip" rim. They apparently hold water in the rain and it causes them to get out of balance until the dry out. Do a search and you'll see plenty of people complaining about it. Apparently companies like HRE and Kinesis know about it, but they really don't care...

TDI, thanks for selling your rims, man. I've gotten some really good knowledge out of this thread. :)
To my eyes, your car...particularly the color....just screams BBS.
hell no!!!!
i'll prove you there are other rims that look way better!!!!!!!

I've seen some talk of this and am still waiting for someone to explain how this is happening. How are they holding water and having balance issues. I have HREs with a reverse lip on mine and havent noticed this yet, but am really curious. I dont even see how they could possibly be holding water. Where are they holding it?

pissy i was.
after waiting 8mos for forged 3 piece buddy club wheels for my is300. slap the wheels on -hot hot hot!
first time driving in the rain- felt like i had squirrels in my wheels. wobble steering wheel -super vibrations, i ended up selling them. damn reverse lips made a pet water dish inbetween my spokes and the back of my wheel....which caused the staning water to make the wheel out of balance big time...to the point of the
wanting to pull the car over.
i will never buy reverse lips again,

Can't believe you sold the LM's. Man, I love those rims.
Can someone post a pic of these 'reversed lips' that supposedly hold water. I'm having trouble believing how this is possible when the car is moving > especially enough to affect balance. Not calling anyone a liar...I'd just like to see it.

I agree... I would love to know more about this. The posts I've seen say rain water builds up in the channel where the rim hoop meets the centerpiece of the wheel. It sounds plausible, but really I can't see how people are paying $6000 for a set of these wheels if they can't drive them in the rain. Wouldn't the outcry on the forums be ridiculous? I've only seen a few posts myself.
Is this the area where the water builds up?

but aren't HREs somewhat heavy for being forged rims and aren't as sturdy as they should be?
Get BBS GTs!

The other question I have is how is that any different than on a stepped lip 3-piece wheel? The area where they meet is the same, the only difference is the outside lip piece is shaped smoother than a stepped lip.
Now its possible that certain shapes of wheels and certain styles leave an area for water to build up when the car is stationary and then when it starts spinning, centrifugal force holds the water in place.
But I dont see how the type of lip would effect this.
