dont know if i should tint my windows or not.
if i do i would tint all windows with 35%, i have a light interior so that should help keep the tints light. not a fan of dark tints.
what do you guys think ?

oh, i should also mention that on my way to work i pass a town that the police are very strict on front tints.

A doctor's note only works if you are over 65 :)

Chicago suburbs are notorious for pulling over window tint. I suggest 10% in the front with 100% UV protection and dark as you want in the rear doors and rear window.

As for color, match the wheels.

you realize 10% is dark as hell right? the lower the %, the darker it is. i have 35% all around and love it

35% all around would look good maybe not the windshield so you wont draw so much attention from a cop.

Your not allowed window tint in NJ so for awhile I was running 20% rear 35 front. 35 is way too light in my opinion. I now have 20% all around. I think I would probably prefer 5.

Thanks for the correction, TQM. Illinois will ONLY allow a very light tint on the front windows. They must be able to see the driver through the window at night, for their own safety. They don't want to walk up to the driver's window to see a gun pointed at them when the glass rolls down.

I had put 5% on my EX's New Beetle - Cuz thats the only way I'd drive it, if no one could see me, and she always made me drive - Never had a problem in Washington State.

Here in Montana, I dont think the cops care at all, my buddy is putting 15% on the sides of his (whatever that POS is he just bought), and 35% up front (as in the windshield)

But yeah, run tint - its what all the cool kids are doing. Mine was on my car when I bought it, and I think its about perfect - sorry, I dont have any pics at work.

During the day its spot on causes no law problems, at night its dark enough for privacy.

does this really only work if your over a certain age, is it a state thing, I would like to know more...Im in NH and I want to do atleast 20% front and rear, and state law is 35% in the rear only...kinda pushin' it...

I dont know if it depends on what state you are in as far as age, but I have a dr.'s excuse for tint, cause my eyes are pretty sensitive to bright light. And I'm 28. All you would have to do is tell your eye dr. that bright light bothers you when driving.

has anyone ever taken the windows out to tint them? i seen it's just two torx bit bolts to undo the window but just wondering how easy it is to slide the window in and out. the tint in my opinion would probably turn out better

I got a migraine in the middle of an 800 mile solo drive from Alabama to Michigan. The sunset was cooking my brain. I got a doctor's slip in the glovebox and run 35% all around. A friend did 50% on his black Jetta Wagon. I would have been happier with the 50%.

In MD, 35% is the legal limit. you can have that on any car, all around. No tint is allowed on the front windshield though. For some reason, SUV's have alot more leeway(sp?). they can have black paint on the rear windows and something like 20% on the front windows.

Calabria
03-21-2007, 02:56 PM
i have 15% in front and 10% in rear. the previous owner put it on, but its also turning purple because the previous owner used windex to clean the windows. but im going to retint my windows either 15% all around or 5% all around. cops around me dont really care about it. but 35% is nothing, cops wont look at you twice with anything below 20%.

I think 30% is a pretty good median - not to dark or too light. anyone in oregon and know the legal limit here? BTW should the tint job be left to the pro's or is it semi simple to do yourself?

imo anything darker than 20% looks trashy. 20% and 35% look the best

Eh, the wheels+tint make it look cheap IMO.

I really like the color though.

Im interested in pics of the blueish tint. Like the color of our mirrors. It helps with glare, but still has good visibility.

35's all the way.. some people choose not to tint the back glass in case they ever want them pulled and it would most likely peel all the defroster and antenna lines, but f*ck it, I have no deductible glass and love my back glass tinted. Don't forget that 35's on black interior will look darker than 35's on tan and I agree that anything darker than 20's is just trashy. So with that in mind, 50-20 is where you want to be, unless ofcourse your pushin' kilos like pablo escobar, in which that case zeros' all around are the right choice for you.

I have 5 % tint all around and a 35% on my front windsheild. I live in washington and have yet to have a problem with it cop wise. Its very dark, soo its gay when it comes to backing up at night, but other than that i love it cause noone can see you.

Anything darker than 50% is illegal in Ohio. I have 32% though and don't get bothered. That car is begging for tinted windows ! ! !

personally, on red with light interior i wouldn't go darker than 35 or leave it stock. i really enjoy the privacy but i also think some cars look better w/o tint... and red might be a color that i would decide not to tint very dark at all, if at all.

i got black interior and 15% all the way around (except for the front windshield of course) and a 5% brow across the front. i don't see a lot of people with the front brow and i think it looks pretty good.

i think in Kansas (or Kansas City at least) the legal limit is 35%. not sure if it's allowed on the front windows or not, but most people do it all the way around. i got tailed by a cop for a while in my '96 aucra 2.5TL when i had 5% on the back and 15% on the rest and when he pulled me over i KNEW he was going to say something about my tint but he didn't.

when you look at people's pictures, pay attention to the angle and lighting in the sky, that can make tint look a LOT darker or not very dark at all.

Dont mix tint. It looks terrible. Do the same all around. The 20% or 30% debate happends all the time. Look at it like this. If you have 18s get 35, 19s get 20. Haha. BAsically what I'm saying is, 35% is ideal. At night its dark, in the day you can see in it. IF your ballin, go for 20

I've seen it happen. I owned the shop and had to pay for it. Supra rear windows are expensive. [=(]
