How the heck do I find out what ECU I have without unbolting the box under the hood, or can I do that? It's an '01 A4 Quattro Tip. I keep searching, but can't seem to find it.

Thanks for the info...I've found a few people selling chipped ECU's, but I need to find out which one I have first! I guess I'll just take the plastic cover off if it's the only way.

It's really not too hard. But i think that's the only way.

Why buy a chipped ECU?

01's can be flashed IIRC

"chipped" is just a term used for tuned ECUs. At least in the AUDI/VW world.
However, my 2000 which can be flashed is actually chipped.

i think vag is the the best way to do it.

Or you could not really care what one it is because either M box or CH box will work... As long as it is from a 2001...
