So I searched and got a few results, that the parts are cheap, but that it is a PITA to change it because you have to remove the windows. =(

So I guess I'm wondering how much do you think it would cost me to have this done. Currently I have the chrome trim around my windows, but with the changes I'm doing while my car is in the shop (dtm bumper ,blackout dtm grille, black finished filler), the black trim I think would look better.

Anyway thanks for any info/ recommendations.

Vinyl, now that's an idea, I could blackout my corner markers at the same time.
Anyone know where I could order strips in that length?

I heard there is this like tape. I dunno if its electrical tape. But there is a tape i heard u could buy from like a hardware shop, that will do the job, and look clean.

As far as electrical tape... that would most definately come off too fast and leave a mess behind. I'm thinking vinyl would be my best bet (aside from actually replacing it), I'm just wondering where I can get it done. And its cost...

I've seen the tape thing done on the chrome trim and it looks really good for a little while then it will harden, shrink, crack, etc.

The tape that was used was wide vinyl tape that you'd think would last well, but it didn't. The A8 that it was done on was garaged a lot, too.

I've looked around for some kind of paint that you could apply to the chrome to at least darken it, but haven't found anything yet.

i did the vinyl over the chrome trim, just had the trim measured and had a sticker shop cut it out for me. there wasn't any problems with cracks and shrinking.

i took em off cause the black trim didnt really match the matte chrome mirrors and rs4 grill

Where can I get Vinyl from, do you guys get it at a local shop (any Socal Recommendations), or order it online somewhere?

Also do you think this 3M Vinyl tape would work?

that 3m tape may work...otherwise do a search for graphics shops in your area if you decide go the vinyl route

I don't know, I've never seen the vinyl solution you guys are talking about but it sounds kinda hokey. Doesn't seem like it could look that professional or finished. I'd say just live with the chrome or do it right and change em. Just my 2 cents.

This is the stuff I would recommend if you do it - the 3M Scotchcal Striping tape.

It's available in lots of different widths. A local body shop would be able to tell you where to get it from. The drawback is that it may be expensive (but it will probably last).

Replacing the trim is an expensive job - boostedsline had her car's trim replaced by the dealership. It was even harder on her car since it was an Avant.
the dealership had to replace all the chrome trim with the titanium and the whole job cost about 10K.

So it may cost you few grands for a sedan.

Yeah putting the black trim on is easy. Pulling the chrome is the PITA because all the door panels have to be pulled as the chrome trim is bolted to the door. Complete Ti-pkg conversion thanks to Appleway Audi not ordering my car correctly.........10K! :)

That's not a bad deal... found it on froogle, black 1/2" x 150ft for under $20. It may use 3/4"... I'm not sure because I can't measure it due to my car being at the shop, but this seems like a much better solution than the multiple $K's it would cost to do the real deal.
