I know alot of you guys have the newer A8 but i am looking at a 98 A8 and was wondering if i could get some feedback on what you guys think about the 98 models. I am new to the Audi scene and currently own a 00 A4 1.8T. My boyfrend and i want to purchase a nice casual crusing car and stick with Audi.

Thanks

Kaylee

When you go on long trips, you can put the A4 in the trunk and use it as a dinghy.

97-99 have the most problems. 00-03 are you're best shot.
Ive had my 00 Long Wheel Base for ~4 years now, and I still love it. I do recommend 2 things; 1. SWB 2. bilstein and eibach suspension

On a side note, I am going to be selling her soon, pm me if your interested.

do the 00-03 have the air ride suspension as an option?

01-03 have the option, 00 may have the facelift and various other upgrades over the 97-99, but that wasnt one of them. IIRC

Just out of curiousity, why would you reccomend a SWB car vs a LWB?

FWIW , my wife was just rearended yesterday in our 98' A8 i just bought in Sept. Hit at a stop light by a 02' Mercury Cougar which needed to be towed..Our A8 drove home just fine,my daughter didnt even know anything happened..Our rear bumper is pushed in on passenger side and needed to be muscled away from rear wheel to avoid rubbing. We contacted our ins. co. and decided we will go through hers to see what we can get for it or another A8 to replace it,this one having 177k well maintained miles i wouldn't mind gettin a newer one.....OR get a payout , buy it back and make money parting it out!!!,
