LOL. No such thing as 2.2 liter out of a ATW block.

Everyone keeps talking about going with the TDI crank which has a longer stroke then the ABA crank but isn't a good combo when used in our short deck block. Now the TDI crank would work great in the ABA block when wanting 2.2 liter. Longer stroke increases rod angle which increases stress on the rod.

bOOOOstedAudi - There are many ways you can go depending on the power you are looking for.

Bore it to 83.5mm with the stock crank = 1.9 liter, this would be your cheapest built with a good rod/piston combo

Going 2 liter will be much more expensive for that .1 liter gain.

AEB head would allow for more top end flow with the larger ports.

I'd go throw an aeb head on it for a full longblock. bore out to 83.0, deck the head, springs/retainers and you've got a reliable economy setup.

I suggest a standard displacement bittom end using stokc pistons and some aftermarket rods (Scats are fine).

An AEB head with mild cams and a GT30R of some sort will make the power you'd like.

Bob, would you suggest a stock aeb head w/ those cams or a worked head? also, which cams specifically would you recomend?

Cat Cams 3651.......... 3653 or 3652 if you're not on stock ecu management.

Anyone ever heard of these?
Price seems decent for German pistons.
