View Full Version : Who here has the Aluminum Skid Plate? [Link inside]

My skid plate was torn a bit and now in one section lightly scrapes the ground, driving me crazy! The only place I know of that makes an aftermarket skid plate for our cars is the linked site, and it looks great but it is $$. I also wonder how loud it is going to be when I scrape a bit (my car is slammed).

Any other options besides getting one custom made?

Wanna do a group buy if we can get a better price?

this has been done before, we probably lost the info in the crash though. Vaguely remember something like an aluminum one from an a8 fitting or something......hmmmm

The Passat W8 belly pan is about $60 at any VW dealer in North America.

The OEM P/N is: 3B7 825 235 A

ECS Tuning sells it for $55 in their "Exterior" category. The only issue is that shipping is gonna be fairly pricey. That's why getting it for $5-10 more at the VW dealer would be just as good.

FYI, ECS' website quotes me $45 for UPS ground shipping and I'm only one state away from them!!!

Daft, what is install like on the plate?

It's pretty much identical to the OEM one. Take OEM one off and put this one on.

I think you're really asking for a stronger than OEM belly pan. The Passat W8 belly pan is just a new OEM pan, not a heavy-duty skidplate.

I got the same one from the local Vdub dealership about a year ago. Unfortunately mine still looks just like that. I haven't installed it yet!? With all the work I did on the car in the fall I never put that on. Turbo and exhaust before fluff stuff. [:D] But I really wanted the aluminum plate.

Why not just put it on, after all you take it off to change the oil eh? ^^^^

I want one but I'm not about to drop $250+shipping for a piece of metal that I can make myself in a couple of hours for probably about $30...

Waste of $ for the aluminum plate, IMO

Mine had no skidplate when I bought it, I'll be picking up a W8 pan soon.

Don't have to take it off to change the oil at the momnet [:D]
The rear support bracket for the pan was damaged and I never got that replaced, so until I replace that I can't install the pan.

having it on really help cooling off the engine bay and keeps the temps down. it also protects alot of shit from flying up where its not supposed to be. i learned this one the hard way. Its put there for a reason!
(mine is sitting in my garage too, havent put it on yet from the accident lol) but ill put it on this weekend when i install my bilsteins.

does the W8 skid plate work with the 2.8quattro?
is it as strong as OEM or stronger?

So the W8 belly pan fits the B5 A4? I dont have one on my car and there are like 4 VW dealers in my area and 2 Audi dealers that are very far! If the W8 fits I'll slap that on when I get my car back next week , or should I get a Passat one?
