So since my speed sensor is semi chewed up would that cause the asr, brake, and abs lights to come on in my dash? Also, is it safe to drive the car like this until I can get another speed sensor? I also do not really see how to replace it other than splicing wires.

so it seems to drive fine, just no abs or asr. should be ok?

Is the wires chewed up? or the sensor itself
Is this the same one that wouldnt start after replacing the axle?
Here is a pic of a new one, might help you find where the plugins are

yes, it is the sensor. I pushed it in too far and the sensor got chewed up.

If the ABS and Brake lights are still off, you just damaged the cover of the ABS sensor. The lights would turn on in about 5 feet of your driving if it stops working

yeah, it is just the sensor that is chewed up. No lights come on when starting. I pull out of my driveway and then asr, abs, and brake lights come on. it almost feels like asr is kicking on as I am backing out of my driveway. but then it goes away and dash lights up.

It is kicking in... your abs system thinks that 3 of you wheels are turning and 1 is not, that why its kicking in (while your foot is on the brake) is disabling its self when the light comes on

so it should be ok to drive till I get a new sensor, right?

same thing happend to mine except it was on the front , i drove it for two months like that without a problem, you just dont seem to have your abs, the orange abs light remained on all the time.

yeah, mine is the driver side front. abs, brake, and asr lights are on.

ive only got a 96 1.9tdi so i dont think it has asr or brake on the dash
have you managed to get the old sensor out, mine was so chewed up it ended up taking about 3 hours to get it out.

i loosened up the axle bolt and pried it out already. I stuck it sorta halfway in and left it for now.
