I've been getting some odd shifting patterns over the last couple of weeks or so, every so often under light acceleration, the rpm's would jump around a bit. Sometimes shifts would be jerky, I attributed it to this cold weather in the Northeast. But, it finally gave out on the highway. Just before I had to pull over, I was going up a slight incline, I was accelerating slowly, with the car in 5th gear, I was going at 50, but my tach was at redline. If I gave it more gas, car would have gone well into redline. At this point I pulled over, vagged the car, and as I suspected I got a tranny code:

01192 - Torque Converter Lock-up Clutch
42-10 - Speed Deviation too High - Intermittent

Am I screwed? Hopefully I can just get a torque converter and not have to get a whole new tranny. If it comes to a new tranny, I'll probably have to get an upgraded one from levelten. Guess the T28 was too much for the tip to handle, after all.

I have PC16 with every bolt on which is more TQ then T28 and have a feeling my day is coming....

BTW: was it slipping before in 5th at WOT if left in gear? ANy other slippage inbetween shifts at WOT? If so...the clutches are fried.

Yes, it was slipping before in 5th at WOT if left in gear. I think the slippages were more common in 4th and 5th gear, but it would also happen at a lower gear. What are the clutches? They are part of the torque converter?

no, in a AT there are like 50 (not sure exactly how many) clutches inside for different gears. You my friend need a frest tranny, a level 10 TQ and veler 10 VB. I'm in the same boat as you...

Great, my worst fears realized. I remember asking the dealer ago how much a new tranny would be, they said $5k. I'm really hoping I can get it for a lot less than that elsewhere. I emailed levelten a while back, and they said they have a stage3 bulletproof transmission for my car for $3498. I'm assuming that will include the upgraded TQ and VB. Lets get a few more tip owners and get a group buy going. [:D]

I'm down for a groupbuy.....also, you can get a helthy used tranny for 500-700. The VB is 600 and TQ is 500. The L10 Stage 3 kit includes rebuilding your tranny with higher friction clutches, seals, Upgraded VB.....but does not include the TC.

Hmm, I might just have to go for the L10 Stage 3 kit. Guess I can always add on the TC. How many people are needed for a GB? At least 5?

Yeah. Were you thinking about going for the stage3 also?

Thought about it, but 4k is a lot of cash. He did say the car will be a whole different kind f beast. Will shift faster and harder then any manual and put down way more power.....but how much of that is true I'm not sure.

Who did you talk to? At this point, I'm pretty much out of luck, might just have to bite the bullet and go for it.

im putting down 287awtq in my 2001 with the j31 file and my tip is fine and Im running the Pc-16 on my 99 tip with no problems either. You may have just had a faulty transmission to begin with

and looking at the codes you may just need a new tq converter

if you get a group buy, I might just shell out for a VB.....and maybe even a TC depending on the price.
