02-06-2007, 10:05 AM
How does one know how thick it is if it hasn't been broken? [:D]

I don't care if it's 10 feet, I'm not puttin my car on a lake. [:p]

You drill a long hole with an ice auger.

You could build a house on 3' thick ice.

We did a lot of ice autocross but the last couple years weren't cold enough. It takes a lot of really cold days in a row to make good ice. Then you just plow a circuit and have at it.

yeahh of course I thought about that...

And no I didnt just go out there without checking the ice first. I drilled it in few places and like I said its about 2-3 feet thick. it doesnt sound that safe but belive me its SOLID. I dont think its been above freezing here for the past two weeks.

thanks for the props PIPE7284.

That looks feckin sweet. That really is care free drifting right there(as long as you are sure of the thickness of the ice). Don't have to worry about other cars or curbs[up] [drive]

Nice drifts, but I just wouldn't have the balls to do that, I don't trust the ice.

I'd love to go out, but there are some shallow areas that have slush build up on top, I'll wait a little longer. All this snow isn't helping it freeze thick either.

I'm sooo jealous, driving in snow/ice like that is my absolute favorite thing to do. I could waste a whole tank of gas on it in one afternoon! Too bad there aren't any lakes around here that freeze over that much in the winter. [:(]

Jereme
02-06-2007, 04:06 PM
haha yeah I wasted a good half a tank out there.

But its actually called Angle Pond, its in Sandown NH. It south of winepesakie (or however its spelled).

I really want to get some studded tires or atleast some semi-decent snowtires. My front tires have lots of tread but my back tires are ballld..its makes it pretty intresting.

My buddies got an Impreza 2.5RS and he wants to throw down out on the lake....so hopefully I'll have some more pics and vids here in a few days. It should be intresting, but from what I have seen that thing do in the snow I'm not to scared.

Yeah, subies do ok in the snow. I've rode in a couple of my friends' Subaru's in the snow (WRX, 2.5rs, ForesterXT) and one things for damn sure... They're not Quattro worthy! [a4]

Jereme
02-06-2007, 06:32 PM
haha thats what I'm saying, we're gonna plow out a course around the lake, then race it. I'm hoping to have a chase car so we can get some good footage of me kicking his ass.

Though honestly I don't know if I would run the risk of falling in... I know its totally not going to happen, but I wouldnt want to be that 1 in a million.

Lol there's barely any snow at all in tahoe, just went up there this past saturday. I didnt see any spots of snow until I reached around 6000 feet. The bunny slope @ Northstar was pure hard ice! There was some nice powder in the backside and summit tho ^^

Yup... If you're not all that well at driving with Quattro... it is different than a car with all time AWD... Quattro is not forgiving at all.

For snow drifting I would take ANY AWD Subie against a Quattro.

Okay..lets save the quattro vs. all thread for some other time and keep this one fun.

I agree that a frozen lake would be an ideal place to drift carefree. As long as I knew it was safe enough aka I see other cars larger than mine out there and check the depth of the ice.

I'll have to youtube those vids of ice racing.

yeah ice around here gets pretty thick..... lake winnebago is usually 1 foot+ atleast there are tons of people driving there cars out there.

the collest part about being on the ice is hearing it crack :) but its just stress cracks lol. if youve never been on the ice before and heard that though itll scare the SHIT outa you.

up by me about 1 hour away they have ice drags. thats pretty cool.

Jereme
02-07-2007, 10:23 AM
haha yeah the whole time I'm out there I'm thinking that.lol

but yeah I know what your talking about, those noises are stress cracks and the ice shifting....lol it used to freaakk me out when I was younger and I used to skate out there.

I've always wanted to go ice racing. There was a group of Audi drivers who did an ice driving school a few years back. It was on one of the lakes that they hold a winter ice race series on.

I've taken an old car onto the ice - but never the A4.... so long as the ice is thick enough - you're not falling through. I would have a freaking blast out on a lake.

sooo round 2 went down yesterday...no subie but hell be out there soon. It kinda sucked cause the snow is realllly hard and bumpy, also theres tons of snow drifts and bare ice showing so it was hard to get any traction at all. It was def easier and more fun drifitng around on the fresh snow. I got a few vids,I thought I had about 10 minutes more but someone hit the REC. button twice and missed it all.

belive it or not there just DEPOS that I picked up off ebay,at first I was really skeptical about getting them. I heard tons of mixed opinons about them, and I had a set of halos that were SHIT. But I ended up buying them anyway and I'm more than happy with them. The back covers are all set up for and HID kit. People also said they had fogging problems and so far it hasn't been an issue. If your looking for a cheaper light option I would def. recomend these if you dont mind the 2 piece. You can find them on ebay or this other site:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-98-5-AUDI-A4-RS4-EURO-BLACK-PROJECTOR-HEADLIGHT-SET_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33710QQhashZitem300 078750022QQihZ020QQitemZ300078750022QQrdZ1

OR

http://www.importvision.com/index.php?display=show_part.php&PartMake=Audi&select_PartType=Headlights

both sets are exactly the same..

For the rims I just used some fairly cheap black spray paint from Benson's. My rims were kinda beat up so I just sprayed them, I used to have the alll black theme going on but I got tired off it so I sold the black tails.

Here a photo I found online from 2005 Ice time trials on lake champlain. One car and thick ice no worries but when i have gone to them it is like a mall parking lot out there. makes you think a bit. But they usually have them right near the shore where the ice is real thick. But still 40 or so cars side by side on the ice is interesting. It is a blast.
