I have a stock 2000 1.8t B5, and its time for upgrades. Was thinking to go with eurocodes k04 turbo kit with full exhuast, or piece one together. I still need reliability and somewhat normal gas mileage if possible. Does anybody know how much the gas mileage will go down with a k04 kit? Also any suggestions on other turbos or kits?

^^^ exactly what are you looking to get out of your car? the main question is how much $$$$ you have

there are plenty of turbo kits out there for our vehicles. alot of people here are happy with the k04 upgrade, but other say that is not worth spending that $$$$ for not much difference on HP gains. if you want big gains go BT, go with a small one like the gtrs or gt2x. or you can go and get the gt2871r.
like audiracers4 said, it all depends on how you drive if you want to safe gas.

Im thinking people are going to say APR sIII+, its my understanding that it is more expensive, but of high quality backed by good customer service. The ATP elims have proven to be hit and miss in quality (I can attest to this), and their customer service is frustrating to deal with. I have only heard good things about the PES tuned gt25 (IIRC), seems to be pretty reliable, however, very expensive for the amount of HP gained (~270).

Get the GIAC J31 K04 kit and run that for a while. Its fast and fun and will allow you time to prep the car for a bigger turbo in the future.

Is the J31 still readily available? I remember hearing something about its availability.

any GIAC dealer should be able to flash a j31 file for you. PC-16 is the more difficult chip to find since its soldered into you ecu.

I'd imagine someone like Jeff Moss at Torque Factory could probably get it quite easily. Although perhaps the aggressiveness of the file has caused GIAC to suspend its availability. I know the Hammer is for the 01.5's so is there any 00 k04 fmic injector program out there besides for J31?

I'm suprised no one mentioned this as yet!!!
He asked for the best kit available not no APR bling bling bullcrap or ATP elimination doo doo...
If you want power and reliability yo go with:
SS AUTOCHROME OR XSPOWER
CHECK THEM out there on ebay.
You get a turbo, manifold, fmic (front mount intercooler) all for $350 plus shipping and handling.
You don't even need tuning!
Get a $30 Manual boost controller and you can crank up as high as you want...
That's the next big thing...
Trust me everyone that knows, knows that xspower is tha bomb diggity yo!

And it's less money than what a brand new k04 cost and comes with more components.

Thank me later when you are blowing the doors off M3's and Porche Boxter's

believe it or not guys, the bigger the turbo, the better gas mileage - when out of boost. If I drove an entire tank of highway miles, I have no doubt I could get near or over 400 miles pretty easily. When it's not freezing cold out, I get close to 350 city/hwy when driving normally before the gas light even goes on. W/ my k03 I struggled to get 300. The key is not going into boost. If I want to make a tank of gas last, I stay out of boost as best I can.

Easy, just make sure you do plenty of down hill runs coasting while still in gear during that tank.

I get 27-28 in town and have average over 38 for long road trips. It is all in how you drive the car. This is with a K04 in an Avant. My brother lives about 420 miles away and I've made it there on one tank several times.

I have made it to LA from Santa Cruz before on one tank. Its about 450 miles. I was shocked because I was doing 90mph+ the whole way.

I'm thinking about getting the K04 or the K03/K04.

Since reliability and somewhat normal gas mileage is a must i think K04 is the one for you.

I like my MTM setup, gas mileage with the Tip in the cold, short trips 18mpg on the last tank. Before the k04 last year I was about 21mpg but it wasn't as cold. If I didn't have a Tip I would have gone bigger.

I ran the apr stage 3 kit, and basically no interior for a while, with 16pd wheels.

The thing hauled, period.
