Not sure..but I have never seen anyone do this before....and I have been thinking about it a ton! I have always hated our sidemarkers on our B5's..The B6 and B7 guys got the nice ones....SO.. I went to Audi..picked up the parts.I measured once, twice, 3 times.Made a template, washed the area for surgery, masked off the spot, And started cutting!(not for the faint of heart.) It came out perfect! not one lil mistake and they fit in there like the were ment for our cars! Excuse the dirty car...It doesn't stop snowing and well I am loosing the battle of keeping her clean. Next thing on my list is Ecodes to finish of the outide and possibly Some Hella smoked Taillights..If I can ever find any for our cars! Anyway, here are the pics. let me know what you think. Chris

So, you cut into the body? How much needed to be cut? Also, do the new sidemarkers use the same bulb/holder??

i hope you sealed off the part you cut, or else it might rust. maybe.

^^^^^ I for sure had to cut the body. And yes..of course I sealed it off !Did it with Rustoleum paint (black)Sprayed it into the top of the can and then used a small art brush to touch up the part that was cut.The Bulbs are the exact same..that was the easy part..they snap right in.

any chance you could scan your template and post it up...so other could try this?

I've been wanting to do this for a while.

Also part numbers for the new B6/B7 side marker lenses would be really helpful.

i bought these a while back from my local VW dealer but didn thave the guts to cut into my fender. Even having my friends B6 S4 right next to me as a template, i still couldnt cut into the fender, haha. So i wound up buying the ECS crystal clear sidemarkers, fit and are the same size as stock. I even threw in a chromed 194 bulb to give the effect of the B6 style markers.

Great job!

The B5 ones you are right aren't as nice, but I'd rather pick up some tinted ones

Thanks, Guys...I am loving the look of them, especially since they light up way nicer then the old ones ever did!! Totally brings the B5 back up to speed...Funny...I said to myself keep the template...You may need it again..But did I listen..NO. Hopefully its still at my buddys shop. I will look for it and try to post it up. As far as the part numbers.....I just went to my local Audi parts department and ask for B6/B7 sidemarkers. I went to my car and double check that it was possible and decided....yes. I am such a huge fan of mods that only Audi guys/girls will get.!! Iwill get some better pics when shes clean.

Thank you, but I assure you a template is the way to go. I cut the template to sit inside the oval groove to ensure a presice fit.Its like it came from the factory, which I like.[up]

No. Mine is also officially a 1999. The dealership parts guys identify a 99.5 though a VIN split. The title lists it as a 99. Everything but the bumpers, skirts, and grill is identical to a 2001 S4.
