View Full Version : Anybody into keeping your b5 totally stock?

Never posted on Audizine before but I've been reading for the past 3 years and I always get my questions answerd with the ton of useful posts on this site. It should be refreshing to know there are "Noobs" who actually take time to search and read. Thanks to all you guys who post.
Now the point:
Is anybody on here into keeping it stock? (please refrain from laughter until the end)
I don't see much posted about stock examples (prob because there would not be alot to talk about, but?).
Are any of you guys stock enthusiasts?
I have an 01, Ebony 1.8, Q, 5spd with sport pkg. I always get compliments about how clean and "untouched" it looks; granted it's a So. Cal daily driver and I'm anal about keep it looking showroom.
I tried to trade it in twice now and I can't bring myself to do it, I can't let her go. Also, adding to more appreciation for my b5, is the fact that it's almost impossible to get a new A4 with Quattro in So. Cal.
All the sales guys say "oh you don't need that around here" Bull S----!(therefore, most of the new ones around here have no soul)
Ok, hope I didn't put you to sleep...

I suppose I should add - my mods at first were mostly repairs. Exhaust broke, why buy OEM when you can get a Milltek! Bad turbo...same price for a new k03 as a K04... etc.

Amen to that but I do need my "fix" every week when it comes to modification.

I promised myself to keep mine stock to but it all started with a chip [=(]

Hell, the majority of my car was modded when I bought it and that still wasn't good enough ............ it was just a starting point ......... [:D] [wrench]

its too much of a tease to keep a car with so much potential stock. specially 1.8t engines. i mean if the cars preformance was for the most part maxed out it would be fine. but b5 a4's in no way are near maxed out lol.

For some reason the exhaust has always been my first mod on all my cars, I guess I just cant stand how gay the stock pipe looks, after that I just get a little carried away.

What do you meant by "stock"? FWIW, I currently have three A4s, '99.5, '00, and '01. My wife's car, the '00 is nearly stock. It does have XM Commander and Sylvania Cool Blue H7 bulbs. Otherwise, no other mods. However, she is seriously considering letting me chip it since she had the opportunity to drive my '01 on a recent road trip. What's that say for modding?

if people say that your car looks so clean and untouched. just dont touch the outside since thats what people see. if you dont want to mod that much, just get a chip and when you pop you hood, walah not mods to the engine. since you cant see the chip, you can say is stock.

I've got a 98 2.8L A4 quattro, everything is stock as well. Partially because I can't afford to buy mods for it, but I also just love the look and feel it has already, heck, that's why I bought the car.

Maybe I'll get a short shifter at some point, but thats probably it on this car.

My car came with a chip in it, and immediatly got the ko3 turbo with a ko4 because it was cheaper. Modding seems obsessive. Now if I wasnt a poor unemployed teen.....

Sure her '01 2.8Q-tip is stock. except for the Icelink, SS brake lines, S4 rear brakes, and TT/A8 front brakes.

Built to ordered for her options include the sport package, comfort, convenience, leather, sport seats (S4 seats), cold weather, Bose, xenon, Santorin Blue with black interior. The only options we did not get were ESP & nav.

my first b5 was supposed to be a daily/winter beater. Then one day I parked it next to a table w/ an extra turbo on it. It was all downhill from there

even being broke i couldnt keep my car stock. i dont think io could ever drive a stock car no matter what it is. even is i had an a8 i would have new wheels and the suspension module to lower it more

Sole reason why I bought an A4 over anything else is that its a great modding platform.

No reason why you should keep it stock, its a car begging to be improved upon. With suspension done alone the car turns into a blast. Add more power into the mix and it only gets better.

2nd that.... ive never owned a stock car or one that i could keep that way... im actually even thinking about selling my audi since its too expensive to upgrade, ive done everything I wanted to do to the exterior, and interior... and everything possible to the motor except going BT... and I dont think I want to do that since its too expensive and in my opinion not worth it...

I couldn't keep mine stock, I have a non-sport A4, it came home with the 4x4 suspension and 15" wheels! Those were the first to go....

I'm into making my car look stock on the exterior, maybe paint the lowers and some OE wheels like celebs. I don't want nothing flashy to grab your attention, my exhaust does that. I'm so into making it stock that I refuse to put tips onto my exhaust, painting my cf hood silver (color of the car), stock grille, bumper etc.

My car is totally stock .. looking.
I cant stand the weak pull of the stock ecu after being spoiled with a chip. 60mph just seems so hard to reach on Audi's program.

Yeah... sorry can't help you there. Modding my A4 is not only an expensive hobby of mine but an addiction and I'm not about to get counseling for it haha I'd miss it way too much.

Stock except for a sound system. Rims on the agenda... other than that, I intend to keep it stock!

I had PROMISED to keep the car stock when I purchsed it last September... but it didn't happen that way. Less than 24 hours of owning the car... here comes the first mod. HIDs... I got HIDs installed and I love it!! A week after I purchased the car, my friend found a set or HREs for an awesome price so I picked it up. Then 4 months later... look at my car now!!!

See, I knew this question might lead to trouble. You guys are a bad influence. Now I'm thinking chip, but nothing else.!? My b5 has been in service for 6.5 years with 63k on it and everything works, guess I'm afraid of screwin' up a good thing...

Just chip it, but stop there. Anything else that can go wrong will. Every issue ive had wasn't chip related, it was all Audi.

a chip won't mess with thte reliability. that's how they should have come from the factory...

hell, they should have come ko4'd from the factory

If I wanted to keep a b5 stock I would have bought an S4, the 1.8T w/ K03s @170 hp is still dog slow, had to flash the ecu and den ...

JettaRedII
01-31-2007, 03:43 AM
hell, they should have come ko4'd from the factory

Then the performance would be too close to that of the S4 and that isn't good business for Audi. Of course, Audi then could have had the S4 come with 300+ hp from the factory! [:D]

Why do you think the 1.8T comes in either 150, 170 or 180 trims for all but the TT225? There would be a loss in V6 sales and a lost opportunity to sell cars with greater margins. It's a matter of business, not technology.

TT225 is really more of a Roadster than a Family Sedan... I mean look at who Audi was basing a car for...

I mean do you really think Audi intended for the 1.8T to be a tuner car? That's not the crowd they were aiming for.

Most engineers are geeks like us. It's the bean counters that are our enemies. The engineers know that when they put the k03 in the 1.8t, it wouldn't be long before people like us (like the engineers too) would be replacing them left and right. When a manufacturer puts a turbo on a car, they know exactly what's going to happen. Just look at the new BMW 335. Twins from the factory? Oh they know exactly what they're doing....believe me.

1 ate T
01-31-2007, 06:55 AM
Very true...

I do see the tuning capabilities.. But like I said it's not about what they put in it, it's the crowd they were aiming for. I just seriously can't agree that, Audi made it's base model (1.8T) intended for tuning.

You mentioned the 335 but damn, that sure as hell isn't a base model.. I mean think about it. Apples to Oranges
