Shopping for potential wheels and I'm just wondering if I should check these off of my list.

It depends on the offset of the wheels and the brand of the tires. This pic is 235/45-17 Michelin Pilot Sports on BB RKII and it never rubbed. I now have 225/50-16 Sumitomo HTR Z on stock 16" Swings and they nearly rub on the inside. The numerically wider Pilots had a lot more clearance than the Sumis.

Wheels are "Audi" BBS RC's 17x7.5 ET43

Do you notice much of a performance decrease between the 16 and 17 inch wheels, besides tires?

No noticeable difference in acceleration or braking. Turn in is sharper with the 17s wheels but the 16" tires seem to hold the road a little better. The ride is also better. That big deformable sidewall has it's benefits. Those Sumis have a treadwear of about 160 so they are sticky as hell. A good deal for 59 bucks.

My winter wheels are 17" and I noticed immediately that the turn in was sharper and the road feel was increased but the ride comfort and handling in bumpy corners both took a hit.
