I am looking to change my muffler on my 12v 2.8 and wanted to see if anyone had pictures of either if these two options installed on a B5.

First is the 14862 with the angled and rolled tips.
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/parts/14862.jpg

Second is the 14816 with the straight cut tips.

Also, which one would you chose?

I have always liked the look of the 14816 and I'm thinking of getting one for my car.

DRA4, I think, has one on his 2.8. He'll probably chime in eventually with a pic and a vid. Sounds and looks great. The 14816 has the 3.5" tips, anyone have a picture of an a4 with the 4" tips on it?

Someone on here had 4" I think and they looked a little too big.

i voted against magnaflow...i don't like the way they sound. my brother had it on his jetta....i didn't like it at all. its really just personal preference and budget.

I would go with the first one, Reminds me of the milltek except the tips are non-resonated. PS. The numbers are switched around on the first one. Anyone else notice?

Well here you go i got bored and uploaded a vid of My car with the Remus muffler with 2.5 inch piping and the http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/parts/14816.jpg on my friends blue A4. both of them are 2.8 12v and both have 2.5 inch piping with resonator delete

97audia4, I probably won't remove the resonator. I've had loud exhaust systems in a couple of my trucks and they get old pretty quickly IMO. I don't want to constantly hear it on the highway. Thanks for the videos though.

hey4, As far as the numbers being mixed up, I double checked the website and comfirmed them.

if i were to do it again, i would not have gone with the 14816...

audiracers4, there is no way in hell those are the 3.5" tips that come on the 14816. i have them, and they completely fill up the exhaust cutout.

if i were to do it again, i would go with 3" tips... in fact, im probably going to switch out to a borla eventually... (1.8T)

i cant even hear my car on the highway it makes no noise at all untill i get on it, the magnaflow is the loud on in my friends A4 it rattle like everything inside the car and he even has a slight silencer

I prefer the 3.5 for sure. Looks way more mean. No pics of the 4"ers though?

I have a gutted cat and 2.5" downpipe into 2.5" piping, into a magnaflow resonator (not sure of the model #) then it goes into a 14862 in the rear. I lovvee how it sounds,no drone and not to to loud. You can't even hear it if your just cruising....but it sounds amazing when you get on it. Ill try to get some pics of for you later.

Mines a 1.8t though.

explicit's model for the win!

jbrentd
01-12-2007, 07:16 AM
Very nice explicit. All though the voting is leaning towards the 14816, I think I might go with the 14862.

Keep those pictures coming if you got 'em.

could i possibly fit the 14862 on 3" piping? Im such a n00b to exhaust... :(

01-12-2007, 08:03 AM
I think it has a 2.25" inlet.

SeanF
01-12-2007, 08:15 AM
yea, youd want a muffler with a bigger inlet...

bellofello
01-12-2007, 08:24 AM
I don't know why magnaflow doesn't offer these mufflers with larger inlet sizes, only 2.25" wtf? they should have 2.5" and 3" as an option. Maybe even one with dual 2.25" inlets for us v6 guys [:D]

1.8G
01-12-2007, 08:46 AM
Are there any similar looking mufflers with 3" inlet? I really like the look of both of those tips, i dont want the fart-can ricer look.

bellofello
01-12-2007, 08:49 AM
I think they have some, but you need to put on your own tips I beleive

DRA4
01-12-2007, 11:45 PM
DRA4, I think, has one on his 2.8. He'll probably chime in eventually with a pic and a vid. Sounds and looks great. The 14816 has the 3.5" tips, anyone have a picture of an a4 with the 4" tips on it?

Good memory bellofello. Yes i have the 14816 with 3.5" tips. Heres a video.

can't remember if you had the mid muffler removed? did you? Also did you find that the muffler has broken in and sounds a bit better after some miles?

DRA4
01-13-2007, 12:11 AM
Well no, i still have the stock mid muffler on it. It sounds better now, especially at 5,000ks.

I ended up buying the 3" version of the 14816. It's the 14815. $140 shipped on eBay. I'll get it on an post up pics. Matbe a video if I can figure it out.

I went with the straight cut in the end over the 14862 because I like how the tips don't reduce in diameter as they get closer to the muffler. I also chose the 3" based on the pics everyone posted.

Thanks everyone.

Is 2.25 piping big enough? How big is the stock exhaust? I was hoping to go with a 2.5" system, but I guess I wont be getting a Magnaflow muffler then.....

Anyone make a catback slanted exhaust for the B5? I come from a drifter world and slated looks sick once you get used to it.

01-17-2007, 08:34 PM
magnaflow does make mufflers with 2.5" and 3" inlets, they just dont have tips which isn't a very big deal b/c it gives you the option to get any tips you want. actually i just checked their site and they now have some 2.5 and 3's with tips.

Here's a clip of the new muffler. It's the Magnaflow 14815 (3" tips) on a '96 2.8 12v with the stock cats and resonator. This is my very first attempt at uploading a video to the web. I used my little digital camera and the quality of the sound sucks.

Here are some pics of the 14815 in installed. I'm not too happy with the installation since it is pointing to the left a little, but I am happy with the selection.

I was just wondering if the 30V would be any louder than the 12V? Sounds nice. I'd like mine to be a tad more angry though.

Anyone have a sound clip on a 1.8t? I want a unresonated milltek, but they're quite expensive. I'm getting to the point where my whole exhaust is rusting through so I will need to start thinking about a new exhaust, I just don't have 800 dollars to dishout on a milltek.
