I think I’ll add some cork or thin rubber under the camera to get rid of that rickety noise

^the two holes on the one side slide on to the headrest shafts. then the camera sits right in the center of the two headrests..

awesome mod, i've been thinking of fabbing up myself one of these but haven't had a real need just yet..

i definately wouldn't pay $125 for the one ECS sells

It's my crappy digital camera. The lense shroud is rickety

I bought a piece if 1" aluminum bar ($2) (hollow) and drilled out holes for the headrests and mounted a Bogen-Manfrotto Micro Ball Head #482 to attach the camera ($50)...and it works great.

Now I have a Gripper professional suction mount for the exterior too...

So did you use an eyeball or ball and socket to angle the camera? That lets you have a passenger with the seat in a comfortable position and still have the camera angled correctly. I saw a homemade mount that didn't do this and he had to have his seat back perfectly upright to see out the front window.

Another thing that helps with shake is to use the seat belt to stabilize the seat. If no one is in the passenger seat just slide it back a bit and buckle the belt. Then pull the belt all the way out to engage the auto locking retractor (the ratchety thing). Then slide the seat forward a bit and it keeps it from vibrating or rocking back and forth.

i've built one for my friend using a milk jug and an old potato cannon... though i personally didn't use them, he said they worked great.

i just mash the camera between the headrest. i lift it all the way up and put the camera in there.....point it out the passenger window, mash headrest down on it....check the screen to make sure it looks ok. and off i go...too bad everytime i do it nothing interesting happens.

tell me about it, I was thinking about having him make me some wheel spacers, (I have 10mm H&R's, but I kinda wanted 15 or 20mm) but I think I might be pushing my luck with that request...aluminum gets expensive...for them anyways lol

Thats just a stupid and dangerous design... sorry, im not trying to bash on you, but if something goes wrong, and you wreck or get hit... that mount could be fatal.

Its just that the bar extends out so far, it would act almost as a spear to your head if you were to get hit on either side of your car. Just watching out for you. Thats almost as dangerous as putting a mini fire extinguisher on your a-pillar... acts as a projectile in a small wreck.

[confused]

how is it any more dangerous than any other mount sold or homemade?

its extremely long, and it looks like it can slide in and out to move the camera, so thats dangerous as well. the ones sold are usually aluminum and short/small. you also want it coming off the drivers seat headrest, because the seat will move with your body seat belted into it... does that make any sense? i hope that answers your question...

ActiveMonkey
01-10-2007, 06:22 PM
wait... you want it to move? I'm confused. i want it locked in place...

o and if you dont have one, or are too lazy to make this, i just stuck my camera in between my seat and headrest by raising it to the max height then letting it down slowly and tightly onto the camera (like this guy)
i raised the head rest up the slammed it down on the camera.... damn im lazy

Thats the safest way

but thats grimey :) btw your car sounds great w/ that exhaust not bad for a test pipe (droning wise) and just a chip huh
