fpr = fuel pressure regulator

you kinda asked a general question about fpr ... so.......... you're not gonna get a specific answer..
fpr gone bad can cause misfires, run rich/lean, etc.. you need to log your performance

you're stock, so change fpr w/ oem one.....

Here is a procedure for testing the FPR from Bentley.

Copied from Audiworld :
You can insert a fuel pressure gauge in the fuel line and take readings with and without the FPR line connected.

With connection: Specified value: approx. 3.5 bar (50 psi)
- Disconnect vacuum hose (arrow) for fuel pressure regulator.
Fuel pressure must increase to approximately 4.0 bar (58 psi)
- Reconnect vacuum hose.
- Switch ignition off.
- Check for residual fuel pressure by monitoring decrease in pressure on gauge. Specified value:
After 10 minutes: at least 2.5 bar (36 psi)

thank you becasue i cant go wot (wide open throttle) with my car. My friend who is mechanic told me that my problem was (1) A old dirty fuel filter, (2) A bad fpr, (3) A bad fuel rail and or (4) When my timing belt was replaced The timing my be off[=(]. I replaced the fuel filter, next up is FPR. Its not coils, spark plugs or the maf. My car idles fine no backfires but under full boost or wot it feels like i hit fuel cut off...

I take it you don't have a CEL, do you have access to a vag?

So it just stops accelerating at a certain RPM or does it start running rough when you hit WOT?

i would invest in a VAG, even if its just the ebay version with 311.2 (does everything you need for a b5 a4)

Those symptoms you described make me think that either your MAF is bad/unplugged, or you have a clogged catalytic converter. If you don't have a CEL the MAF probably isn't completely fried leaving the cat as the most likely culprit.

An easy way to check, is to pull out the 1st oxygen sensor and see if that alleviates the problem.
