Ahh ok. Both sideview profiles of the car and the guy in the red vest almost made it look like my cuz [:D]

Had fun? How's your car running?

Chard
01-08-2007, 11:32 AM
yeah, it was good fun. I haven't been on a drive in a long time. The car seems to be running well. Could be me, but I'm not sure if it's pulling as hard as other other Stage 3 though. Maybe I need an aftermarket clutch and LWFW too. I still have to make a heat shield too.

That was a lot of fun - especially the drive from SJ to the 92 / 280 spot. I wish I could have taken the 2nd half of the cruise as well after Alice's, but I had prior engagements. Nice Meeting everyone there!

We can do a quick test with the TT. From a 20mph roll, floor it with the best of your shifting. If I blow you away up to 60mph, it could not be running right, or driver error [:D]

Better yet, roll with galabanted or Mike and see if it performs as well or better. We can vajj it too.

Yup, stock clutch.

Euigi, I'll give Mike or Edong a call sometime to see if they're free for the test. I had a run with an A6 4.2 last night on the freeway and he couldn't pull away from me up to 135 mph, hehe. I shut down after that, but was still wondering if I should have been pulling on him. We were pretty even.

Rich, I'll let you know when it happens and see if you're free.

After seeing and jocking CHARD's car, I want another turbo car again damnit. Might get me in trouble on public roads though ;)

Whats an expected price nowadays for a B5 1.8T or would it make more sense to look into a B5 S4? This would be just a project car BTW but still streetable.

you can get a b5 1.8T and make it faster than a chipped s4 for a lot less than buying an s4 and it is a lot easier of an engine to work on. Hence the massive amount of BT b5ers. get a 99.5 at least and you can prolly find a decent one for like 9k. I paid 10 for mine with 55k miles on it. Get a nDBW AEB.

Yea but twin turbos are tiight and there is a more linear response to the engine. It's a very popular platform to modify, and a car that has tons of potential. Expect to pay around 16,000-18,000 for a used 2000-2001 S4 with around 75,000mi. You wouldn't have to mess around with the looks either as S4s look clean with 18s and sport suspension. If you want the S4 but money is an issue...wait a little on it and maybe you can land on a great deal. I actually bought a 2000 S4 last year with 91,000mi for 16,500, but it was a friend's friend who had all documentation, miltek exhaust, and APR chip and I trusted her. The deal didn't go through b/c the dealership wouldn't take my A6 out on trade. The owner hates my guts b/c I and the whole sales team quit on him, but that's another story. The B5 S4s are still my favorite and unless you have A LOT of time on your hands don't get a 1.8t and make it a project S4 beater...just get the S4 and make it an RS4.

you will end up dropping a lot more money down the road on a 2.7bi-turbo though. like i said, you can work on a 1.8t yourself and its a lot easier than working on the s4. The a4 will handle better than the s4 as well.

To each his own....B5s are cool anyway you take'm [drive] [up] [up] <---

u can find a 1.8t for 7-10k and the turbo kit is about 5500+labor. save on labor if u do it yourself.

that would produce as much power as a chipped s4 which is what? 15-25k depending on year and mileage?

but think about it. i would still rather pick up a 2000 s4 for 15k with say 90k miles on it and chip it which costs <1000, than a b5 1.8t for say 8-9k with 70-80k miles and dump 6k into it.

burner799
01-12-2007, 12:01 PM
^except.....your s4 will have higher mileage, handle worse, need to do TB most likely, and be a much more difficult car to work on. 5500 + labor is a price you pulled out of your ass. The turbo in an elim kit is 1300 bucks + fuel + fmic and you are still very far away from 5500. To properly install new turbos on an s4 you would have to pull the engine, not so with the a4. Its cheaper to make an a4 fast than an s4. you can work it on it a hell of a lot easier yourself and you can get one pretty cheap with a lot lower miles than 90k. oh an........Mike Hood has an a4 that i hear is faster than a stg III+ s4

booyakasha. keep it real.

MYBMW05
01-12-2007, 12:48 PM
10-20k higher mileage doesnt mean much if the car was properly maintained. and work on is subjective because most people who tinker with turbos either

1. are mechanically inclined to work on the car themselves
2. know someone who is and can do the work at a discounted rate
3. partly 1 and 2.

and i havent taken into consideration that going to a big turbo on an A4 makes your car less reliable than adding a chip... because by tinkering with the factory setup to that extent, you are obviously risking one or many problems, more so than adding a software (and however many stages you need).

wow, before you start accusing people of pulling sh1t out of their ass, why dont u go check www.goapr.com

the 5500 price i reffered to was their A4 1.8T b5 apr stage3+, which cost $5299. tax+shipping would easily exceed 5500. yeah theres cheap turbo kits, and yeah you can make an intake for about 10 bucks with home depot parts, just like you can buy shoes at payless instead of footlocker, but thats not the point. the point is, you think you know so much about audis but you dont know jack. you dont even/have never even had or considered a turbo upgrade, so how do you have any relevant information to offer? and btw, if you think a stock A4 handles better than a stock S4, you are mistaken, as usual... but then again, i forgot im dealing with someone who thinks all "ricers are sh1t" and speed in a straight line means everything... grow up, and get a clue before you contribute more useless info.

burner799
01-12-2007, 12:52 PM
^^I was not talking about the stg III+ though. I specifically said ELIM kit. I am not talking 10-20k miles either. for 10k you can have an a4 with 55k miles, for 15k an s4 with 90k miles.....thats 40k miles difference not 10 or 20. I am very well aware of the price of a stg III, it is info available to everyone. A person being mechanically inclined does not change the fact that there is a lot more labor involved with keeping an s4 running and pulling an engine out to swap turbos is a hell of a lot more work than pulling apart the front clip.........everything you stated is pretty much b.s. (mileage, pricing, handling).

You dont have to be considering a BT kit to go on az and read about all the information offered on them. I also said an a4 will handle better than an s4 (not stock) because of the ligther weight up front (engine).....which is valid.

Why do you have to attack me as a person, that doesn't help get your point across. Who is the immature one? I am just throwing out the facts, geez. Post this in the b5a4 forum, see what "older, more experienced" people tell you. Furthermore, we just ruined a thread.

buddy of mine just got a 2000 S4 with 67,000 miles for 15,800. thank you. point proven*.

and never did i attack you as a person. everything i said is true. everytime i have been out with you or at a meet you always comment and point and laugh at just about every japanese made car you/we drive pass, and always try to provoke a race out of them.

its not my fault u tried to provoke a 328i that pulled on you on the way back from the g2g on 1/7, and its not my fault that that ford taurus sho would beat you either.
