The hard way: trans swap.
The easy way: VIN swap.

Thanks,
Parts aren't hard to get, just wondering if anybody went to the trouble of converting one to another, different mounts and all that...engine size and electrical..
car's worth 2 grand needs front bumper and some other small parts, good mileage,
so if I'm getting into the engine setup I was thinking that I could through in the 1.8t and get in goin' if it's doable

i don't know if it would all be worth it but while your at it you could easily go BT if funds approve. i guess it wouldn't be all that bad though if your getting the 2.8 for 2 grand ?

yea, if you can find a motor and transmission from a 1.8T...

itd almost be easier than going from a 1.8T auto to a 1.8T manual...

motor mounts from the 1.8 and 2.8 are interchangeable...

youd need wiring and ecu as well...

way too much work for what you get lol... just sell and buy a new one.

i would only do it if you plan on building the 1.8 to at least 400bhp...

strengthen the engine and slap a gt2871r and support...

or just say fuck the ecu, and go standalone now...

what kind of budget are you looking at

If it was big budget he could afford to just buy a better starting platform. As noted above the reason for the purchase was the price. Selling the 2.8 for a little profit and putting it towards a 1.8t 5MT would be a great idea. If you can't make a profit on a $2k car then it wasn't much of a bargain to begin with.

As the smoothie man said (lol), now would be the best time for BT, stronger internals, and going standalone. I would probably investigate about boring it out to a two liter like mikehood, even if the budget DOES approve all this right now, take your time and build it right from the beginning. You might want to try to source a 2.8 manual tranny if you're going to go that deep too. So if you think you're getting such a good deal on the car, fuck asthetics and build it right! [wrench]

And if you're NOT building the motor, you might as well just save yourself the headaches. Sell it and buy a 1.8TQM in whatever color you really want.
