Does anyone know if the pump is the only part needed to be replaced.. I canot find the pickup tube anywhere.. (or does that come with the new pump),,.. Also has anyone had this problem go away completely from doing the oil pump as im going to do...

Have you tried the auto-rx flush? I was having tons of oil pressure problems till I did that.

I was very close to replacing the oil pump, it looks like a tough job. I've heard on a scale of 1-10 its about an 8. I'm pretty sure that if the new oil pump doesnt come with a pickup tube, you can clean the old one and re-use it. Same with the pickup screen. You may not even need a new pump. Maybe try cleaning the hell out of the tube and screen. It's rare for oil pumps to fail, but common for them to clog because of sludge. Sorry I'm not much help.

yea idk it seems people are all really not sure about oil pumps.. Some say o those never fail some seem to think it is the whole issue.. Idk i just figured if i have the car ripped apart anyway to get to the pickup tube i might as well do the pump... Not something im gonna wanna have to go back and do later,, ya kno thanks tho

I don't see how the oil pump could fail because its a really simple device. My guess is your pickup is whats clogged up. I would definitely try a flush first, the oil pump is a pretty time consuming job...

I have done diesel flushes ...kero flushes... and sea foam... It is fine for a little while and then it keeps coming back.. The light is triggered when the oil gets real get hot after i get on it for a while .. the when its in the 1000-2500 rpm range the light comes on and i get a lifter tap.... Then if i bring the rpms back up over 2500 under load....the tap goes away and the light may or may not come back on... idk its weird ... i gotta do somethin.. i just got my apr chip too and dont wanna mess my engine up... the tapping sound badddddddd

The oil pump does come with a new pickup and whatnot. It is gear driven. After pulling the pan you just remove the two long screws holding the old one in and pull it out. Then slide the new one in place and put everything back together. The engine will have to be lifted quite a bit to get the oil pan off. I gets stuck between the oil pump and subframe so you'll end up raising it more and wiggling the pan out. Then it has to come up even more to get those 2 bolts out. After that everything is really easy.

from passenger side:

the worst part is getting the front of the car off:

place jack securely, remove motor mount bottom connection, loosen trans mounts all but two turns:

pan off - pump exposed:

pump out:

the oil pump can go bad, its gear driven, much like a water pump is belt driven, the impeller on it can come loose of the gear shaft just like a water pumps impeller comes loose off of the belt shaft.

The oil pump is nothing but two big gears. There isn't much to go wrong there. Nearly all failures are from a sludge booger clogging up the pickup.
