Ok guys getting ready for a chip for my 2007 A4 2.0 FWD 6spd, but not sure which one to go with. On my GTI 1.8I was running APR and it was pretty good, but I saw something about the GIAC and I was interested because it comes with the controller to switch the programs yourself. I need some direction here, let me know what you guys are running and how you like your programs.

Thanks

I have***so its the best. Thats basically what happens here. A search would be pretty helpful though, lots of write-ups. Having a modestly objective outlook on it, i would say the usual, "get the one (APR,GIAC,REVO,OET,Neus.) thats the most convenient/closest/where you have your work done", and beyond that, if you are planning on doing some more extensive work and like to play with settings get something like REVO. I have APR and enjoy it, if i had it to do again i would do the same. Other people on here have some pretty extensive knowledge of settings etc.(search) Good Luck.

You can switch with APR as well, but instead of using a separate controller you just use your cruise control stock.

The software questions are tough, it is personal preference a lot of the time. I recommend reading some and doing some searching. That being said, my personal preference is APR, you might have different interest. APR seems to be very conservative, and respect the cars current configurations, but yet creating much more power. The driveablity is smooth as stock.

yeah i am familiar with the cruise control program switch, i had APR on my GTI and loved it, I just wanted some current opinions with the 2.0. If i had another 1.8T it would be a no brainer.

like mentioned before everyone pretty much supports their software. I will tell you they are all good, but I did try them all three and now have APR. Driveability, customer support, power, easy of operation, conservative values used (boost, air:fuel, etc) I felt those were all better with APR.

I have APR and like it a lot but sometimes I wish I had waited and considered GIAC just because I hate going to my APR dealer. Also, GIAC wasn't available at the time.

I would go with whatever tuner is closest to you.

if you do any trials do the 30 day money back guar. Dont do the timed trials, which I dont think they do anymore. When I tried them out it was all 30 day money back.

I have GIAC 93octane program. I love it. It is the newest version.
I happen to go with GIAC because of convenience but APR would have been fine as well.
Do more searches on here. You will be reading the same old Sh$@ for hours though.
Good Luck!

GIAC guys: are you doing the cold air intake + fuel pump upgrade as well as recommended by the GIAC website?

There is no need for the F fuel pump. It has the same exact specs as the B fuel pump but has a different bleed system. Both have been superceeded by the H fuel pump.

cheers! Mike

I will agree with this. I have the B pump and have had no issues. I have put over 20,000 miles on the car with software.

While technically it is possible, no US or Euro tuners are allowing self flashing at this time. I suspect it is to help guard from pirating or for software security as well as it requires the use of a special cable rather than a simple CAN compatible vag com cable. I also drive 1.5 hours to my APR dealer, but I do it monthly to keep up on things and dyno test. Likely it will be your only visit so it may be worth it...until you get hooked of course and end up going back for more and more power :)

cheers! mike

With the Cruise Control Stalk functionality of the APR software, would it be easier than GIAC for an Audi dealer to see if you have software? All they have to do is try and switch the programs right? Am I reaching for something that won't happen?

They would have to add extra encryption if the software files were released to the public. I am sure it would add liability since consumers would flash the wrong file if that is possible.

I wanted to do the same thing since I have a 2hr drive to get flashed. I still have some really old software to.

most likely won't happen, but that is why APR offers the lockout feature. I recommend spending the extra 50 bucks or so on it.

As Jeremy stated, there is a function that allows complete stealth. The $59 lockout feature allows the cruise control functioning to be deactivated completely with the car locked in whatever mode you desire (stock for dealership visits) until your 4 digit PIN is entered. No blinking of lights or other program switching telltales and abilities will be seen if in the lockout mode.

cheers! Mike

^that is so true, whatever people have in THEIR car is the best. Every company does tuning in their own way and the power differences change by maybe 10WTQ. In reality, if you are a crappy driver and dont know where your power is, it doesnt make any difference who chips your car. Like he said also just go to whichever shop is convenient and trustworthy and trust their call on the program they offer. I went with GIAC just because you cant get anything else really in Vegas.[race]
