I was about to leave a store this evening and I noticed my headlights weren't on. I parked the car and noticed that the gear indicator (tip) wasn't illuminated either. I checked the relevent fuses but they seem to be fine. Does anyone have any other ideas for what could be wrong? My car is stuck at a gas station over night.

BTW, its an '98.5 A4 1.8t.

Check your wipers, turn signals, and heater. If those items don't work, then most likely it's either the Load Reduction Relay, or the Ignition Switch. Search for either of those and you should find some recent, relevant info.

If they all work and it's just your lights, it may be the turn signal/headlight switch.

The Relay is about $35 from the dealer, the Ignition Switch is about $78 from the dealer or $40 from NAPA, and the last I looked, the headlight switch was about $150 from the dealer.
