Jedi, you're right. I actually can't believe I forgot he had an avant. I just realized that most of his posts show the front end (intake ducting, lights, custom air dam for the track, etc.)

Anyway, like Jedi said...check his out[up]

^^^ my biggest fan - thanks Pat. WhippeD's ride is way more hooked up than mine. But I have a little work done here and there [;)]. Only "show" mod I really have is a front bumper upgrade. Everything else... well almost everything else I've done is track related and performance related. I do have to admit, I really wish my Avant had that show quality of WhippeD's... but in all BLACK & CF [:D]

That looks like a great place to start. As long as the price is halfway decent. 99.5 Avant 5 speeds are pretty rare and definitely the ones to get. The coilovers are high quality and so are the rest of the listed mods. [up]

joe, did you ever get your lights set up?

yeah, actually, I did. Got them up and running last week or so. They rock. Really wish I hadn't waited this long to drop in the HIDs. Unfortunately, because the ECode's housing are so deep (same as factory lights, but much deeper than the ebay cheapies) I had to pull out the BMC CDA filter and my CAI setup. I'll prob have to run an open cone filter setup from now on. It's ok though - I have a new toy that will be more than happy to run the CDA [:)] And I most likely won't be running the Avant on the track anymore... [hint] [:D]

You could have gotten all 4 in there without putting the seat down - I did. All I had to do was pull out the cargo cover and put a wheel chock behind each pair of tires. The wood blocks just happened to be the right size to keep the chocks in place. If carrying them with the seats down you really have to lay them flat. Otherwise panic braking takes on a whole new meaning.

4ringAR
12-14-2006, 06:51 PM
yea, i realized that afterwards. would have stopped alot of the rolling. I also realized i should have just layed them down flat; I could have seriously messed up my tint/window since one rolled back and was practially right next to the rear window. live and learn. I tried to fit them all vertically in a row like you did, but they didnt fit, just barely too wide.

4Ring, are those Volvo rims? And, do you run them on your avant?

4ringAR
12-14-2006, 06:56 PM
Yes they are volvo rims. from a V70R. I just picked them up today off of a friend, long story short, his dad has a v70r and instead of just getting new tires, he got new wheels and tires, and then told my friend that he can do whatever he wanted with the wheels since they were taking up garage space.
I plan to put them on if I can get adapters.

sounds like all us avant owners have some good stories about utilizing the rear cargo - I've done the tire thing to almost every track event. I'm able to stand them up side by side like Jim shows in his one pic. I take so much crap to the track, it's ridiculous.

back in the day when I was doing location shoots, I would pack the avant, with the seats down, floor to ceiling, front to back with all my photo gear. I had to keep all the sandbags up front on top of the rear seats, cause if I put them in the back, it would be slammed... but just in the rear. My assistants hated me because of how neatly and organized I packed the car. Not so much during the unloading, but because I made them put it back the way it was when I arrived on scene.

btw, the reason I bought the avant, not because it's the coolest B5 out there, but because I needed it for location shoots and all my gear.

<edit> now it's just the coolest B5 out there [;)]

<edit 2> not to mention it's gotta be one of the coolest ways to go boarding/skiing.

Same here. I needed integrated roof rails to keep the bike rack off the paint and needed interior room to carry work gear. I've hauled more than 700 pounds of gear almost 900 miles a couple of times. One time I brought over 500 pounds of aluminum extrusions and tools home and took a detour through Deal's Gap. Yep, that's right, I did the Tail of the Dragon with many hundreds of pounds of tooling on the floorboards and cargo area. The car handled it very very well. With two people up front and a full load of gear I've had over 1000 pounds in it. I figured it was the same as 4 fatties but better distributed.[:D]

I won't admit to hauling 4 fatties... OK, so I'll admit to it, but in all fairness, they were for a friend [;)]

I've never actually weighed all my photo gear, but with all the 25 and 15 lbs sand bags, c-stands, mini rollers, and everything else I have... it had to be up near the 500-600 lbs range. All I know was that it didn't seem to affect the car much at all, except for that first 45-0 stop. I always under estimated that one.

A few of my my major install days, ie: turbo/ic had the avant packed to the hilt with all my tools, parts, extras, chop saw, tool box, etc. Stopping short with all that gear is a scary event... I think I've only used the cargo net once. Probably should think about using it more often.

I looked at the avant last night and I am definitely going to buy it i pick it up on Saturday morning its kinda like Christmas but a couple weeks early. The guy I bought it from was super cool and i got a really good deal. I'm probably going to get it chipped on Sunday and then take it from there...I will also be on the look out for an rs4 front bumper but I'm sure I'm not going to be able to find an already painted one because the color is rare as hell. Ill post some pics when i get it home (with the back filled with all the extra rims and tires of course)

orangea4, i think i emailed you one time about how tight your car was. i stand by my words. your car is my inspiration. euro s4 rear, roof spoiler, s4 sides........drool.

and that pearl white avant is wicked nice. although i am unsure of the look without the roof racks. i originally though about removing them, but they are growing on me.
