so i did a look through on the old 12v today since i threw a CEL..
came up with a "EGR insufficient flow" causing some gas mileage issues fo real.
on top of that my head gaskets are starting to leak (just a little)
i have an exhaust leak (pre-cat)
and it has 160k on it.

solutions:
spend the money on a 10yr old car to fix all of said problems.
which could be as much as 1500 if I do all the work.

or take that money and use it on something new(er)

thing is. i really like that i only pay about 100/mo. for this a4.

suggestions?

They don't seem like significant issues to buy a 'new' car.

If you end up getting a different car, I am sure it is just you.

my point is.
dumping 1000-1500 into a car worth like 3500.
in my eyes it kinda isnt worth it.
and i feel its only gonna be downhill from here.
i know none of these repairs are urgent. but theyre going to need to be done sooner or later.

sidenote: anyone with info tips on removing/cleaning the EGR valve?

wow...you and i are at the same delimma. I have a 96 12v with 129,000...and i supposidly have these issues with mine (from the stealership) but my car is at my mechanics place now:
Cv boots and joints
power steering lines
rear differential seals
no working ac (not that i need it right now)

But I have had hopes of upgrading to an s4 as well instead of dumping all this money into my car thats worth...well not much. In my opinion being in the same situation, if my mechanic accually does say all this needs to be replaced, I think im moving on up to an s4. hope you make the right decision too

here i show i look at, you said you like the fact that you only pay $100 a month for your car, and im sure that the next car you get will cost more. also at least you know whats wrong with car, unless you buy a brand new car there will most likely be things that need to be fixed. you could look for parts from car-parts.com and do the work yourself. just some ideas

This is very true, all the more reason right? [s4]
