I'm thinking about getting this grill. Looks OEM-like, only without the rings.

It's cheap as hell, which is what I'm all about! I miss my old LLTek grill (had on my 12v), but I don't want to spend $80+ on that again...

What do you guys think?

What about the hood latch?

the problem with the grills without rings or other access to the hood latch, is getting the hood open...

my buddy got a grill that's basically just the regular A4 grill without rings, but he ended up breaking it trying to get the hood open... It came with a special tool which I think is to open the hood without breaking the grill, but I'm not sure how it was supposed to work.

Lol well I guess that answers my question... :P

Anyone know of a place that still sells the LLTek grill? Or anyone have a used one for sale?

Im not a big fan on that grill... but thats just me. I prefer the honeycomb grill look, with or without rings. I have a RS4 grill and love it. Paid like $62 or something on some website for it new.

Yeah.. I mean everyone has the same one, but that's cuz that's what looks best. I have Kamei with DIY OE rings on it. Love it.

People here and on Audiforums sell them for like $60.

I actually prefer the "slotted" look that that has. I love my oem grille. Not really a fan of the honeycomb.

The Kamei grills or replica Kamei grills look sweet as well.

i have that exact same grille. matches perfectly with the lower grilles and fits very well. comes with a little "tool" that you use to open the hood latch. hood latch had to be cut a couple inches though BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE HOOD WITH THE NEW GRILLE... learned that the hard way.

I think that grille is tight, but I can't do it with the OEM RS4 front end I got. I'm guessing the way to rock that one w/o ruining it and still have access to the hood latch is one of 3 things.

A remove the OEM hood "safety latch" which is really there only in the event the hood pops open at speed. (the 2 pins and cables are really holding the hood down) Install race style hood pins thru the top of the hood.

OR

pull the shoe (lever) rubber off the OE hood catch and dremel it so it will clear the slats and still allow for a tug. You may have to cut it down a bit and then drill a snag hole on the side of it that you could get at with a hook.

OR

as a last option remove the OE catch all together and go with a safety chain, cable or strap that you can unhook after popping the hood to get slack, but definitely test that so it wont break if for some reason you find yourself at 120 MPH and the hood somehow comes open [eek]

Or just roll w/o a hood catch like I did with my old CQ when I swapped to a cabrio hood for an RS2 conversion

it has a little paddle looking thing with a slot on it so you can catch the cut latch and pull it without scratching the grille or breaking the fins

The reason I am not interested in the RS4 grill is that it does have chrome.

I'm trying to get my car down to as little chrome as possible. I want to do gloss-black rings on the front & back. :D

Looks a lot like this grill - http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/1159/a41ra2.jpg

I used to know the name of it, actually was looking for it for a good 3 months, I had the name but lost it, it has been a long day [:(]

Anyway, I tried getting the grill from DTM but Ryan says they don't make it anymore, something about the plastic sagging in the middle over a long period of time in high heat (i.e. California). I'm getting the RS4 from the link the previous poster mentioned.

Saturnine had a grille like that on his B6. The hood latch just needs to be bent down or adjusted to hang down further and not poke out through the grille. There is no issue with it.

I like that grille a lot, with the lower grilles the way they are the stock is the way to go, not an RS4 fan unless you covert everything
