has anyone found any real build up of ferrous metal shavings or particles on these?

Yes. My plug needs to be cleaned every time I change my oil.

Crap I just had my oil change done and forgot this. Would be interested to hear how dirty your drain plugs are when you do your change.

i put one in this summer when i rebuilt my engine, the first oil change had quite a bit of build up on it, i cant think of a reason that it is not good to have a magnetic oil plug.

Just did mine last week. I had a very light coating of metal gunk on the magnet. That's pretty normal.
