What deck do you have now? (just curious)

I have an Alpine 9835 (no glidetouch) that has multicolor illumination that can match your dash, plus it's iPod compatible. It's in great shape, with all manuals, remote, etc. I don't plan on using it, so if you're interested, PM me.

Thanks JB!

Actually, the 9835 was the top model from the year before. Has all the bells and whistles that you could want - MP3/WMA playback, six 4V preouts, parametric EQ, time alignment, iPod compatible, etc. It also has the nicer display (Biolite) vs. the 9833 from that year which had the regular digital display. The buttons can change through something like 512 colors to match your dash.

The 9855 and 9853 were from the following year....the main difference is that the 9835 doesn't have glidetouch (which is a good thing). Also, I've heard people complain that the faceplates on the 9855's commonly die.

thats what the 9853 did, I just mixed up the numbers.. he is probibly better off not getting glidetouch alpine stoped making them because of problems, my friends 9855 had to be replaced a few times, but i never had a problem with my 53

I have the 9855 and to be honest matches really nice at night but during the day it is still no perfect match but its better than most headunits on the market. Also the black and white lcd display looks really nice at night and I never had problems during the day.

I still can't get used to the glidetouch bar - I think they made a mistake by putting it on and that's why they removed it on the newer models.

i just bought a head unit for my car, i dont think i could buy something knowing it was like last years model or older...i dont know, thats just me.

i went with the 9856. For $200 it seems like a steal with all of the features it has and it can light up blue or green. I will probably run green. It will match the green arrow that my fog light button makes at night.

I would prefer red but i think that the alpine green is pretty nice and it will look ok with the red...blue might not look that bad either.

+1 for going with Alpine though, mine should be delivered tomorrow.

Depends on what you need it for. The newer Alpines lack many of the features of the older models. Alpine has been going down the drain over the last few years in my opinion.

For example, the 9857, which is the top CD headunit model this year, only has 2v preouts, and lacks time alignment and the 3 way crossover available on their older models....WTF?

I just don't understand why Alpine would alienate the audio fanatics that have been the foundation for their sales for so long. Time to turn to Pioneer, Kenwood, Eclipse, etc. instead.
