perhaps you need to think beyond the literal and think figuratively.

think about what he's trying to say with that car as he drives down the street...

He is saying the same thing as everyone that has upgraded to S4 or RS4 body parts.

Yea, not a big fan of posers. No offense to anyone on here, but I hate seeing an S4 front bumper on an A4. When I see an S4 front I think 2.7T. At the same time though seeing a Reiger RS4 bumper is fine because there's no wide body. Anyway, to each is own.

That 540i looks great. You get the prestige of an M5 with the cheaper insurance and operating costs of the 540. You can always call Active Autowerke for a little boost if needed. I've kinda thought about doing that to a 540i Touring (wagon).

FWIW, there is a 600whp twin supercharged M5 in the area owned by a pro skateboarder. I haven't seen it in person but I did talk to the BMW service manager about it. He said at first every tech wanted to drive it but now they are all pretty much afraid of it. He has to ride along with the tech just in case things get out of hand.

you beat me to it onemoremile.

the only thing you can jock him for is the badge on the back. everything else he has done to his car is the same that some audi owners do to their cars.

that cars pretty nice, but 20 g's for a 540 w/ 125k?? sounds kinda high....

exactly everything looks awesome except the M5 badge. one of the salesmen at the BMW dealer i work at after school drives a silver 540 with the M5 package that looks EXACTLY like that. minus the badge.
i got a chance to drive an E39 M5 on the lot the other day followed by a '03 911. the M5 felt like it pulled just as hard if not harder than the 911 in first and second gear

The M5 generally runs the same times around a road course as the M3. Most folks that have tracked both actually prefer the M5. Strange but true.

buddy, read the thread I already explained it. it's not rocket science.

do you think he drives down the road explaining to people that he has m5 upgrades and badges? or do you think he just drives the car and people think he's driving an m5?

my question too. seems there are quite a few pro skateboarders in MI. why does that seem so counterintuitive?

I don't know. I'm still trying to figure out how we manage to raise pro snowboarders. I have no idea who the skateboarder is.

Do you really think EVERYONE knows the difference between an M5 and any other BMW? who cares. Let him do what he wants.. also, do you know him? If not then how do u know hes a liar.. he might be a poser.. haha maybe if u asked him.. "is that a M5" and he said yes.. then u can call him a liar.. but until then, he is letting people think what they want..

haha in my area, if u see someone with a rolex u think.. FAKE. But really, what difference does it make?

I just think its kinda dumb to make fun of people for doing stuff like that. Let them do what they want.. what they eat dont make you shit.
[:D]

anyways.. blah.. im tired.. overall the car looks nice, and I myself would take off the badges too..

no shame in a 540i 6speed. that's a sick whip. the badge goes a little far but the bodywork looks so money.

as 1more said, a great car, lower insurance and op cost and the good looks. i'd call it smart $, real m's are still in the 40k range.

oh and the skater with the m5 is josh kalis.

that car has nothing on ali goulet's old CQ 20vtq, eS2 conversion that 2bennet did.

I think this is really funny. two weeks ago a derek posted his A4 up here with an s4 badge. the car was clean, but he get's torn apart because of his badge.

That is pretty much where everyone draws the line. You can dress up like someone you're not but carrying a fake ID takes it too far. [:D]

good god . . .

i was thinking about taking my '91 200 wagon to 2b to see if they could juice her up a bit. think it would be worth it to put a little extra into a car like that?

iin10ded
12-01-2006, 08:30 AM
if the car is in good shape then maybe. the 44 chassis were notoriously.. costly to maintain. brilliant chassis and mechanicals wrapped in one of the worst electrical systems ever. i miss driving mine [91 200tq and an 88 5ktq] but dont miss fixing them.

the biggest difference items IME are chip+ wastegare spring and springs / shocks. those wont be too bad on the wallet and make a big dirrecence in pwer and handling. past the chip, it's the rs2 upgrade path which is brilliant but $$$$$ and l ikely not worth it. unless you can find parts used [audifans.com has a great marketplace for the older stuff] and do the wor yourslef.
