Wouldn't s4 exhaust manifolds work? Same chassis and the blocks are pretty much Identical? Correct if wrong...

Finally someones done it. I want to see it when she's done, should be awesome.

GT2871r's on the 30 valve? thats nuts. the S4 boys are barely putting on gt25's and some gt28's..

but i guess if you are going to put that much work and fabrication into a car you might as well do it right!

Its a single turbo, as in the same 2871R they run on 1.8Ts. Therefore it would be even better running it on a 2.8

I'd run a no less than a gt30 on a 2.8 but maybe there's good reasons why he went w/a smaller turbo.

That's the sickest thing ever.

then why does the intercooler have two inlets to it? a single turbo that is that small on a 2.8 liter would just be dumb.. 2.8 VR6 guys usually run GT42's. so why would they put such a tiny turbo on there? it's got to be twin

pipe7284
11-23-2006, 08:19 PM
^^^that is what i thought so too, its got dual inlets. but i can only see one turbo. but anyways. that thing looks sick, nice and clean work done to it.

Definately a twin turbo setup, did you guys look at the pics?

I was just wondering how much boost the bottom-end could handle? I thought about it myself, i would like to make it a rear wheel drive only though.[a4]

BranCKY3

^ Yea, because traction is overrated these days. Launching a car like that with RWD on 225 or similar tires would be nearly impossible. Traction in my car launching is terrible, running 225's and quattro.

not much more than 10 psi. with a turbo setup like that on the 2.8 you would need to change the compression ratio and build the engine at the same time.. which im sure that engine is. otherwise it's toast in no time

looks like you need wider stickier tires,

going to have to give up that "all business" buisness [;)]

Launching traction comes from a longer footprint not a wider one. The best solution is a tire with more grip. Spreading the weight out more doesn't do nearly as much for traction as people think.

2.8 appears to blow at 12 psi at high rpm in 4th gear ...

first off it is a twin turbo setup..

but i actually think the opposite. it should be a single turbo setup.. reasons being there are already twin turbo 2.7's out there running all different kinds of different turbos. plus with a single turbo setup you could produce more power than you could with a twin..

take a look at all the stg 3 S4's power and then compare it to the 2.8 turbo VR6's power. they are running much more power, although the powerband of the s4's is much longer than the VR6's

it's like the supra's.. my brothers friend owns the fastest supra in the country right now(8.xx ET), it's a single turbo setup. there is no twin turbo supra that can touch him..

single turbo can push more air using the entire engine than two smaller turbo's each using just half of the engines power.. from experience and examples like big time dragsters and such it is just what i have seen

although, with money anything is possible

ditto! i hope the owner of this has built the forge internals and lower the compression, if not say GOOD BYE TO THE MOTOR!!!!

IMO if he dropped the money to twin turbo it I'm sure the motor is built up. Then again, that might make too much sense for some people.

Twin to single turbo conversions make more sense in straight 6 cylinder motors. Not a V. The fabrication is too much work. If that motor isnt built its toast, the 2.8 cant handle much.

tell that to people that drive WRX's and single turbo 350Z's and mustangs.. '

and it's not much more anyways, one less turbo and inlet to worry about. plus my buddy is working on a single turbo 2.8 A4 right now and it hasn't been that bad

bellofello
11-24-2006, 11:49 PM
yeah it's just a matter of running the exhaust from one side to the other where the turbo is. If you're already custom fabbing manifolds and stuff it would be cake.

nunya
11-25-2006, 09:11 AM
The key phrase is "make more sense." If single is such a piece of cake on the B5 Audi V6 then why dont we see tons of single turbo converted S4's? I have seen one over the years with a gt70r done by KTR, it put down some good numbers. The V6's on these cars are squeezed in there and dont allow much flexibility for fabbing exhaust manifolds and such. Im sure its doable though but it would be a PITA. Got any pics of the single 2.8 build of your buddies?

it was more of an inside joke in reference to a 2.8 that just blew at 12 psi ...

i would assume that you are right though. i dont think you could even run k03's on a 2.8 to their maximum potential without doing something with the compression ratio.

not yet, they are in the process of building a spare motor right now and fabing some parts for it. once it's done(estimated around the beginning of spring) i told him im taking a bunch of pics and posting it on here and a few other places [:D]
