Today i go to rotate my tires...

of course, i pull off my front drivers side wheel, and find out my cv boot has torn, pissing grease everywhere...

why cant anything ever be as simple as just rotating your tires?

why does something always have to come up?
</rant>

on the flipside, i guess its good i decided to rotate my tires so now i wont be driving on a torn boot, killing my axle

you may be able to change it w/ it in the car

i pulled mine out and have always seen ppl pull them out @ work

its going to be way easier w/ it out of the car..its only 6 more bolts anyways

The Audi tears up boots like a dog on meat. I've replaced it once and its torn again, on both sides.

So Eff it.

do they just tear or did you do something while you were removing your wheels? when i had my suspension installed the guy called me and told me my cv boot was leaking everywhere, and i had him replace it. now that i think about it, could it have been negligence on his part?

no negligence

b5 and b6 chassis both tear up front outer cv boots

common occurance

yea, i was just rotating the tires, theres not really any way to screw up anything behind the rotor just pulling the wheel off...

You realize that you just "jinxed" yourself, don't you? You better start praying to the Audi Gods and ask for their forgiveness...

Hahaha, I haven't had any real problems with either of my cars because I do all maintenance before it is needed or if there is any sign of anything going out.

even if you did, thats not difficult...

you have to take off the pinch bolt and get the knuckle out of the way so the axle can come out from behind the knuckle...

Still haven't had one tear on my car(nearly 130k miles), but I did chew up the inside of a CV and yesterday snapped a torsen flange shaft.
