Pretty straight forward question. I drive a 4cyl Accord auto now. I drove a manual Miata of my friend's a few months back and loved it. I never drove it in heavy traffic though and my total daily commute is 50 miles through 5pm freeway traffic and the auto makes it easier.
I'm probably going to change jobs to a closer hospital in a year when i plan on getting a new car (the a4 2.0TQ is up there :) ). I'm definately going to chip it and was wondering if the 6MT is the better choice.

it is personal preference, but the manual will be better for mods. It just doesnt seem like a sports car without a manual.

6MT is ALWAYS more fun, and usually faster. However, living in HB its g onna be pretty hectic. That I know for sure, considering I have lived there and driven a stick in that traffic. If you dont mind the crazy amounts of traffic w/ a stick then get it for sure, if your leg is gonna start hurting then get the auto, still a good choice. If you wanna get something in between, get the A3 DSG!!

I would say yes, but that traffic is going to suck with a manual, no matter the car

i plan on getting a job closer (<5 miles local traffic). i love teh way the a4 looks and I think the 6mt would be the best fit for the car considering its sporty nature. the shifter looks like sh*t in the auto too, just doesn't fit in lol.

I hope the 6 speed manual with a chip is way faster then my tip with a chip because mine is not that fast. It's quick but nothin special but that is not why I bought my car. Peace

6MT for sure. You should test drive one and you will see thats its a very easy car to drive even in traffic.

if you can handle the traffic, go for the MT...

I have a manual and its fun to drive, I havent gotten a snub mount yet, but I will soon, Im not to happy on how the car shifts right now. It feels sloppy going into gears, A friend of mine has the same issue in his car. Need snub mount soon.

Its a no brainer to get the M6!!
I have a 6 mile commute into Boston. There are about 243,984 stoplights and I get cut off just about as many times. Average speed usually (as the computer states) is under 20mph....
I wouldn't trade it for an auto.

It is ALWAYS better the get the 6MT, unless you lack mad rowing skillz. [drive]

i had a manual in/around NYC. you get use to it very quick.
I like it cause you can rev it when the light is about to change (in the city) and it lets people know "move the f outta the way"
the only auto i would buy is an AMG.

Well, for the first week or so, driving in traffic is gonna hurt like a biatch! You're gonna wish you shouldn't have gotten a manual for a bit, but after a bit, you'll get used to it and enjoy it =)

6MT is the better choice regardless of what you do.

Never owned a manual car, but now I do....and I gonna chip it next week!!!
it's little annoying driving slow(parking lots) with manual but it's so much more fun!

go for the manual. You will be a very happy man once you get a chip and all the other goodies.
The modding never stops at just a chip

6MT is great especially for modding such as the chip. I've read a couple of articles and a few studies that show chipped automatics have a lot more issues and the chip is a lot harder on the auto transmission than it is on the manual. My 04 A4 1.8T tiptronic w/Revo had more and more shifting issues the longer I drove it.

i had a few autos as loaners and wasn't too pleased. if i were to go tip i would probably pair it with the 3.2. the 2.0T's autos seem unrefined IMHO, but the manual def. tightens up the feel
