today i was getting on the highway and there was a m3 in front of me so we went for it and then my car started to sputter (misfire) like three times. its not the first time it happened but it doesnt happen all the time either. anyone know what causes this. oh ya the m3 started to pull on me after 3rd gear

there was no cel. and last time i had a coilpack go the cel was blinking and the car died on me. if its a coilpack does it go bad just for the time its misfiring and then run fine after that? or is it once its bad its bad.

If you have access to vag-com (you'll need a real one that supports CAN), pull the codes. That won't necessarily tell you if you have bad coils, but it will tell you if you misfired.

are the coilpacks the only thing that make a car misfire?

What about super rough idle? It almost surges kind of tumbling and thinks it wants to die, almost misfiring, but only at idle, and the engine light is on? Is this similar or no?

I am waiting for my scheduled appointment to take it into the dealer.
