View Full Version : suspension installation

I posted this under general B6 A4 forum and got no info. Could anyone help?

"I'm thinking of upgrading my shock and springs this winter from stock(none sport version) to a set of used S4 shocks and springs.

How hard it would be to do it on my own? My local VW shop qouted me 6 hrs max at $62/hr labor.

Does anyone have a step by step guide that I can follow?

What else would I need to replace other than a straight shock/spring swap?

It's a 02' A4 1.8T Quattro"

There's a full write-up in the DIY section of the Tech Forums for installing suspension on a B6. It's not that hard if you have the tools. You can use the hook and bolt spring compressors (rent them at an auto parts store) but it's a lot easier if you have access to a pro spring compressor. The rear is a little tricky to get the springs out and back in but not too bad.

pay for it to be done, I found it to be a MAJOR PITA to compress the rear springs on my B7
