Well was able to take the car out of the garage for a little run around the streets near my house, felt very good to drive again and it even drove pretty damn straight. Here are a few pics, just need to find me another driverside head light, paint the grills(still not sure what color) and install hood pins.

Paint the grills flat black and do the RS4 mod to them.

Very nice indeed. I was thinking dark gray / black for the grills to match the hood, but I think it will be tough to match CF.

Pretty much what I was thinking too. Paint them all black/dark gray or paint the outer part of the grill the blue with the center bar black. I dont plan on doing the RS4 grill mod since I am trying to hide the IC pipes and might even go as far as covering the back of the grill to keep any air from flowing thru it.

looks great. if you spent the extra dollars, you could cover the grilles in carbon fiber, and then clear coat it.

that would be the best match and adds an extra special touch on the details of the car.

but if not id just paint them body color.

bet it felt good to drive her again mate, i reckon the grills blue around the edge and black in the middle would look ok, i dunno about all black though.

Might look into making some FG or CF pieces to fit in the head light spots. I just have to have some type of lights if I have to race at a street legal night event.

^ one of my many winter projects is to fab up some kind of one piece HL w/ a huge hole in out of FG or CF weave.

Renn-art sells one for the passenger side only and it only has a small inlet hole in it.

Just put the Europlate on the new bumper, was even able to use the 2 holes that were already in the S4 rebar.

Also trying to see if we can get a shop to make some CF S4 grills which i think would sell like hot cakes.

Do you want to buy my drivers headlight? I want to order a new driverside headlight to match the one on the otherside. it looks kinda wierd with one rock chipped and a little hazed and one on the passenger side is brand spanking new all crylstal clear and stuff. Let me know. Its still in good condition no scratches and all tabs are intact.

Mate, that looks sweet as for what colour to paint them.

Maybe this picture I took in Germany might give you an idea.

The dark colored grills are nice, but he should really lose the "chrome fender trim" that he put on the bumper/grills.

ok i'm curious. why would you want to do that?

and might even go as far as covering the back of the grill to keep any air from flowing thru it. [/B]

To decrease the amount of air flow into the engine bay from the grill area during drag racing which decreases drag.

i'm not a fan of the bumper...i know why you did it and all...but aesthetically...i'm not feeling it. but not everyone dig v2 sides and v2 rear. so its with a gain of salt.

cf hood likes good on it though.

ahh.. i figured that would be the effect but I couldn't think of why. you crazy dragracing addicts..

i'm guessing you'd want to make smething removeable for street driving?

To decrease the amount of air flow into the engine bay from the grill area during drag racing which decreases drag.

Correct. I could always remove what I put behind them or just use 2 different sets of grills(1 for racing and 1 for street) but I dont plan on driving this car all that much on the street.

My lic? Used to drive the car on the street all the time with the car looking nearly just like it does now. From the side the car looks stock and just sounds like it has a aftermarket exhaust. Its not always "what" you know but "who" you know.[:D]

yes, audisnapr does have the rennart f/g headlight inlet. Someone else was trying to pick one up from Rennart a while back, but was told they no longer make them. I'm sure with Mike's hook-ups he can source one.

I actually cut a second 3" in the headlight cover to allow some more air to circulate into the engine bay since the 1st hole is connected directly into the intake.

On another note, I made a dedicated fiberglass cover for my driver-side headlight so that it's protected on the track from debri. I simply covered the headlight with a few layers of plastic kitchen wrap, did 3 or 4 coats of fiberglass, trimmed the edges, smoothed the front, painted it black and done. Because of the way it wraps around the edges, it pretty much holds itself on. I add a small piece of double-sided tape for security. Anyway, I'm sure it would be easy enough to add a few extension pieces from the fiberglass cover to the factory headlight mounting holes so you can elim the headlight all together.

this was obviously before the new 3" hole was added

whatever you do just don't turn on the lights with the cover on. it ain't pretty. you may want to just pull the headlight fuse when you get to the track. you know how easy it is to bump something in there when you've got your hands full and not notice it.

iin10ded
10-31-2006, 12:12 PM
heh.. i meant that i would never be able to restrain myself with that kind of zots under the hood. i'd be dead or in jail in minutes... =)

the car looks rad. i was actually over at 034 when javad had it a year or so ago [motor was out, iirc] and got to give it a look over. it's the bizness alright.

oh sure, now you tell me! I learned that lesson over 2 years ago when I used to tape my lights up for the track events (pre f/g inlet). One event was super foggy so I turned on my lights without thinking about the tape. Made a nice little 1" melted gash in my factory lights.

i say paint the grills either a) body color or b) that dark gray carbon...have them color match it. no other colors would be appropriate.
