So I was vacuuming my car today morning when I noticed that there was a crack (like 4 inches long) on the left hand side side support of my driver's side seat. WTF?! I've babied the leather and the car has only 8k miles.
Does anybody know how to "fix" it or "glue" it so it won't expand?

I was wondering how well the leather was going to wear. This isn't a good sign.[:(]
I'd make Audi replace that if there's no evidence it was cut by anything.

I'd take it to the dealer. It's probably a defect.
Also, I'm not sure if your tear is the leather portion.
The seat only has leather on the portions that we sit on not on the side/thigh bolsters, which are vinyl.
Down on the left thigh area, if you look on the outside of the seat, it actually contacts the plastic edge of the seats controls. After extensive rubbing I can see maybe this area wearing quicker.
Still, I'd say take it in and have Audi replace the seat.
Good luck.

This whole time I've been under the impression that our "leather" wasn't even real anyway. It feels like plastic to me.

Weight actually has alot to do with leather durability...you'd be stretching it more than usual if you up there in size...
I refer to my uncle's weight of 350....you should see his leather seats!! It looks like my grandfathers face!

I thought the centers were leather and the outers were leatherette in the 2.0?

The center's have to be leather. I have some wear on my seats and the car only has 14k miles.

yeah, the center parts are leather but the outer parts are leatherette on the 2.0T. I dunno about the 3.2...

i had this happen around 8000 myself...i took it to the dealership and they had a regional service manager approve the replacement...they did it no questions asked...and he personally told me that the sides are leatherette and the rest of the seating surface is leather

Can someone take pictures of these cracks on the sides? This is something really good to look out for, since we have confirmed they do replace this.

I think even in the 2.0T it also depends on whether you have the premium package or not.
Standard package = leatherette
Premium package = leather + sunroof

That sounds really strange. The factory leather has incredible pin pressure rating iirc.

3.2 does NOT have all leather. It does have real leather on the "seating surfaces". Those are the center seat and center back portions. The thigh and side bolsters are vinyl.
That is the standard seat.
If you order the premium leahter, which is called Voltera, then you get FULL leather seats.
This is a description:
"N0K Premium Leather Seats
Includes genuine Volterra full leather seat upholstery, door inserts, front and rear center armrest, shift knob and steering wheel."
NOTE: That is "premium leather seats", not "premium package". 2 different things.
The special leather is also optional on the 2007 models.
Thus, the "leather" seats in the 2.0T are partial leather and vinyl just as the standard seats on the 3.2.
You can have full leather on the 3.2 for quite a bit more money, but not on the 2.0T.
I wouldn't pay the extra for the full leather, but it's a nice option for those who want the full luxury of all leather.
I like "leatherette" or vinyl as it's a tough material, stronger than leather on wear pron parts like the thigh and side bolsters.
The easy way to tell if what you are touching is leather, simply push into material with your fingertip.
Leather will wrinkle and show fine lines under pressure. Vinyl will simply push in and appear smooth. Easy.
I "assumed" that FIN had the standard leather seats and not the premium leather.
Which seats do you have FIN?
Still, I would take it to the dealer in any case

From what a salesperson provided....
For the 2.0T it states that only the seating surfaces (the middle pieces, excluding the side bolsters) are leather. It's also stated on Audi's website and product guides.
For the 3.2, the seating surface and side bolsters are in leather.
Or so I thought/told/read/believed.

The "leather" seats in the 3.2 V6 A4 are the same "leather" as the 2.0T. It's listed as "seating surfaces".
That is why there is an optional leather for the V6.
It is FULL leather seating along with other areas.
It is called "premium leather". It is not part of the "premium package" on the V6.
I think the full Volterra leather option is $1000.
If Audi offered the cool Sport seats in the US that they offer to the rest of the world I would have spent the extra $1000 for the seats and the full leather, mainly for the seast though. [:D]

No BS, just as they say.
4-tified is right on.
2.0T with premium package, 3.2 have leather seating surfaces, just the middle peices, not the side bolsters on the bottom or back or the headrest.
3.2 "premium leather" is full leather seats.

I dont mind the seats. I am getting close to one year with the car and about 23,000 miles. I also live in Tucson, AZ which will fry up some shit quick. Some good window tint and leather conditioner every 4 months must have helped.
I will agree I had no idea our whole seats were not leather. But none the less I still feel like I got a smokin deal considering how much car I got for what I paid. Every person that has got into my car has commented on how nice the interior looks. We buy these cars because they are a good deal We get those good deals because Audi makes decisions to keep the cars nice but yet affordable. If you want all out luxury pay a bunch more for a A8 or something else in the luxury class. Just think we could be on a forum talking about mazdas or acuras or something.
Even if my seats are not all leather I still enjoy rocking the A4... awesome car with great quality. We are lucky to have such fine rides.

O.. and I would take your car back to the dealer and see if you can get a new seat. That should not have happened.

I think I have the vinyl sides/bolsters since I don't have "premium leather". The dealer is not gonna help in this case because my car is already on its way to Finland (I drove it to Long Beach yesterday).
And the USA warranty is N/A in Finland. [headbang]
Well, I guess I'll try if I could get the sea insurance to cover it. [:D]
