Today i installed an S4 suspension on my A4 and though it does handle better... it is almost, if not just as high as an A4 Non-sport suspension. I just don't get it. The springs were all shorter... i thought it would be atleast as low as a sport suspension... wtf!
my only guess is that the car weighs less...
what do you think?

2nd that. My B5S4 stock suspension is pretty . . . luxurious anyhow. [rolleyes]
Can't wait to get coilovers on her ASAP! Makes all the difference in the world!

they will need to settle a bit too

They should be at least an inch lower. They are also progressive I think so yeah, give it a week or so to settle in.

but they are not even new... Got then from Tonggi qith ~40k on them... So even though they are used they still need to "Settle In"?

Id say it takes a couple days to settle in even if they are used.
I think you are correct though, becuase the 2.7 weighs more than the 1.8.

that blows... I guess if it doesn't settle as low as i would like i'll have to buy some lowering springs...

I have a sport and my friends s4 sits a tiny bit lower than mine. No way you are as high as a non sport.....thats ridiculous.

there is a 4.5 fingure gap in the rear and a 3.5-4 fingure gap in front. I'll let it settle for a week or so. But i will take some pictures tomorrow.

Letting it settle will only bring it down about .5 to 1".
The springs in the S4 susp im sure are stiffer just like the 3.0 vs 1.8T springs.
Whats weird is that you said the S4 springs are shorter. This means that they are indeed way stiffer over your stock springs.
What about length of the shock and struts. Were they longer, shorter, same?

i think the shocks were the same, but the springs were a good 2 inchec shorter... were the same.

The springs on the S4 are stiffer to handle the additional weight. If you were to ask..I would have suggested you pass on putting stock S4 stuff on an A4. You are stuck man..its not gonna settle much at all. You shoulda bought my "brand new" B5 S4 StaSIS tracksports..which are probably sold as of now.

Yep, as Steve mentioned, you are stuck with a high ride height. It won't settle down.
Steve and I have a lot of BTDT experience with that, so we could have advised you before attempting to install them. Unless you find A4 sport springs, your best bet is aftermarket - or a hacksaw [:D]

I'd . . . uhhh . . . not go hacksawing them.

just heat them up a bit, then shrink them a bit more.
then you can go bouncing all over the roads like those civics!

damn. First you paid like over 500 dollars for that exhaust and now you got off road springs for your ride.hmmmmmmm. You should by my stock a4 sport springs....they will get you way lower than that.

I mean it does handle better... The whole setup was $80 shipped so it's not like it was a big loss. I guess i'll throw some lowering springs on there... oh well

You'd be surprised [;)]
It's just another spring with a K factor. "coil overs" are the quick way to change the length of a spring. Unfortunately, folks abuse this for looks and position the shock at it's most vulnerable level.
I had to cut 3/4 loop on a Neuspeed coil for my bro's 2.8 for the rear because it was not made right.
You need to know what the mechanical aspects are before you grab the hack saw [:D]
A torch on the other hand is torching the physics altogether.

Dont heat them up! You will weakin the freakin spring! INstead cut 2 coils in front and 1.5 in the rear. Use a grinder wheel, sawzall, or a band saw.
If you have the extra cash, buy some eibach's or something cheap. Hell, sometimes I wish ground control made a spring and collar for Audi's but they dont.
Good luck

just get some aftermarket lowering springs and use the s4 shocks, that'll be the best bang for the buck since you bought these for $80

sounds like a plan.

Active Monkey..I didnt mean to sound mean. A bunch of us have owned several Audis for 9-10 years...and have a ton of experience with them...me? I have owned eight Audis (6 B5s...one B6..and an Audi 4000)....Audiboy has his original B5 A4 from 1996. We have seen it all. Your cheapest "viable" option would have been to get some off the shelf Koni coilovers for $900..then you could adjust road height and had some decent cornering capability. As it is now..you will probably need to take that S4 suspension off the car because you will not be happy with it. It not intended for the 3200 lbs of your car..it is for 3550 lb S4. Sorry man.

10 years of B5 goodness?!? That lucky Bastid! [a4]
I was still driving my '93 90sport in 1996 and would covet the A4 for another few years before it was paid off. And I didn't find the AZOGs until 2001.
