due to the fact that i will be going bt over the winter i have a few questions.
1. how much can the stock 1.8 motor take before blowing up
2. how much could it take after putting in better rods, pistons, cams, etc?

1. about 350whp
2. more then you could even make(I make about 530whp with a 1.8 block pushing 32psi on a 8:1 CR)

400 should just be the beginning

well the stock internals are pretty strong. you have to remeber that 400chp isnt bad ast all especially for a 4 cylinder ( not that cylinders matter)

for a street car...400 daily driven is pretty respectable [up]

especially from a 4cyl ;)

just thgink the japanese race cars only put out 300-500 hp. its the weight that get them to extreme speeds

Beginning of the end for a "stock" motor but the beginning hp for a built motor.

i guess the question to ask is how much power am i going to get from a gt2871r with agressive tuning and the stock internals vs. new upgraded internals?

there is no power difference between stock internals and built internals

its how much power can it hold

you can push your limits a little more w/ stronger internals..thats where the extra power comes from

with 135k on the clock, is it recommended to make that much power?

as long as all your maintenence is done you'll be fine. these cars will run forever.

i know a guy with a '92 Audi 90x with 200+k on it. and he has 400+hp running strong

ok, now that i know this, i should just stay with my lovely b5 A4 instead of selling it and buyig S4. although those machines are a beast. ours are little monsters. plus i am in the process of a timing belt.

Saw a Passat go one night at the strip, bottom end blew out through the oil pan.
