How many people here actually drive/track their car or another car?
Post up if you track your B7 or track another car/bike, and let us know what you do and where you drive. It seems to me that the majority of people on this forum just cruise around in packs, meet up with other owners, and then proceed to have 'pic sessions' to see who can take the sickest picture and jerk each other off on the internet. I will never understand the desire to drive around and meet other dudes and take pictures of our stuff, so tell me who here actually drives their car?
I have an RX-7 that I used to flog around on weekends, and a CBR (shocker huh?) that I bring to the track whenever I have the opportunity. I have been contemplating the idea of stripping the RX-7, throwing an LS-X in it, and making it a dedicated track car.

I have a 92 talon tsi awd that I track. I recently detonated the engine, so I'm rebuilding with a 2.3 stroker this time. Should have it running again in a few weeks.
Its kinda scary for me with the audi. I'm trying not to let the mod bug bite me, but with the talon down, its really hard not to mod it.
I just gotta remember the talon will always be way faster, and cost less lol.

I have three track days under my belt in the Audi at Summit Point and New Jersey Motorsports Park. I'm signed up for two more track days this fall at Summit Point and VIR. I would like to go to more, but it gets expensive and there are two events during the time I'm going to be at the beach. I also just picked up the book "Going Faster!" and hope to learn a little bit more info that I can take to the track.
I was looking into getting a dedicated track car, but realized it's probably not the best idea until I start making a little more money. However, my dad and I picked up a Miata with the understanding that we would split the cost of the car. Once we sat down at the dealership to do the paperwork, he proposed that he would pay for the car and I would buy the mods for it. Since then, he has changed his mind again and doesn't want me to track it and doesn't want to mod it, so I'm stuck with the Audi for the track and just take some spirited drives in the Miata every once in a while.
I'm kind of like you and don't really like getting together with a bunch of dudes and just standing around... Although, I usually try to make it to the DIY days and drives that the local guys setup. I'd much rather be working on my car or driving it than standing around talking about it.
I've posted these before, but I'll post it again...

Yeah I think I am going to, soon as I move somewhere with a little more space and a big garage. I think I am going to give the B7 to the lady in a year or two and try to pick up a nice 993 or 968 and make that my DD. I figure I can do an LS-X swap for around $6k and strip the interior, which would make for a fun track car. The suspension and brakes are already done.

There are two tracks relatively close to you. VIR should be about 3-4 hours from you and Summit Point is about 1 1/2-2 hours away. Check out the Potomac chapter of Audi Club North America ( http://www.pcc-acna.org/) and http://www.trackdaze.com for their event schedules.
I'll be at Summit Point Oct 3-4 with Trackdaze and VIR Nov 14-15 with the Audi Club.

Yeah DSM's are fun and relatively cheap (compared to these) this is my third DSM. I like the 1st gen platform for drag, it just works for me without all the F and F flash of the 2nd gen.
I'm also picking up a 68 chevelle as a project car, not neccesarily for track, but more for weekend muscle, since the talon isn't street legal.

Holy crap SilverBullets, that GT3 is my dream car.
I hate to admit it but I've never taken the time to get the S2000 on the track. I have done a 1/2 day at Bertil Roos race school though, which was awesome (Formula cars on a road course). I totally agree about GTGs, never had any desire for that.
I guess I'm in some third category- not a ricer, not a racer... just some dude that likes cars, enjoys driving them, and putting in a few carefully chosen modifications. Not sure if that's ok, but then again one of the great things about this third category is that we're allowed to not give a shit what anyone thinks. (A friend of mine once said something I'll never forget: "I don't want to be associated with any subculture." Words to live by... )

KEEP IT ROTARY, if you drag race, ls-1 it, if you track it, keep it rotary, the power delivery of the rotary is a huge advantage in the corners over a piston engine.

I drove Porsche 911s for almost 30 years and logged over 100000 miles of track driving in production class 911s that I drove to and from the track. If you are young enough, go for it.
It's addictive, the most fun you can have with your clothes on, and costs a bundle of money, not to mention time.
That said, my Audi is strictly street, something not boring to drive back and forth to the office. I love oversteer, and I don't think that would ever be possible with the Audi.

i think the only way i throw the A4 on the track is if it is raining one session (though we did throw the Cayenne GTS out there and that thing dominates the track in the rain)... other than that... ill keep it as a daily... for now

A Caterham would be sick... But if/when I make enough money to be able to afford a strictly track car, I think I'd go with an Ariel Atom. My girlfriend went to a car meet at her dad's boss' house (he's into old Shelby Cobras and has a 911) and then posted the pic below as her Facebook profile picture. I almost fell in love with her again, but she had no idea what the car was and didn't know it was anything special. Although, she did say it was "cute." Haha, I guess that's a start and she now wants to come to the track with me in October, so to the girlfriend.

It is an 86, originally a GXL but it is more of a Frankenstein now.

well yeah its an 86 gxl... I thought you had an FD for some reason. The FC3s is a little on the weak side and could benefit from an LS-1, however, its great for auto-x and drift circuit with the stock 13b rotary in it.

Grishy, are you going to make it to the track this fall? The Audi club could use another 2.0T B7, since I was the only one last time... Although, that's probably because our cars don't really belong on the track

We have a lapping club that meets on Monday nights at a little track (1 mile course) not too far from downtown Montreal. It's not the biggest or most challenging, but it's great fun & you get to really drive your car without the hassles you get on public roads.
I just take it easy since it's my first season on a track and the Avant is our only car... and it's leased...
Might try to drive a bigger course if I get the chance (Tremblant or Calabogie).
Cheers!

I went from driving a pickup truck to the A4. Originally the A4 had everything I needed from AWD for driving to the mountains to snowboard, to a nice comfy interior. After spending a bunch of time on this site, slowly modifying my car and experiencing how much fun performance driving is, the Audi definitely leaves something to be desired in the performance category. If I could do it all over again, I would either get the A4, keep it stock for DD purposes and spend the money I dropped on mods to buy a second, cheaper track car. Or I would have bought something a little more sporty with RWD and more receptive to mods. However, it's probably a better idea to have two cars so you don't have to worry about how you're going to get to work when your daily driver breaks...

i agree on this 100%. after the few thousand spent in mods, it would have been a lot more fun and sensible to throw an old miata around instead. i miss how quiet and refined the a4 used to be before the mods.

I have just recently sold the car.
The mods are:
4-2-1 headder
high flow cat
2.5" T304 stainless exhaust with Magnaflow muffler
Eibach Sport Springs/Shocks
Eibach swaybars front and back
Strut braces front and back
Short shifter
17x7.5 wheels with Kumho Ecsta SPT tires
Cold air intake
I would also strip out the interior minus the drivers seat.
