Yeah, I'm just glad it fits right. It's my first attempt with creating anything in fiberglass. I'll more than likely refine it once the awe of actually completing it wears off.

stop hating guys, he tried it! i say take it out, put some more bondo around, send it and paint it, it will look neat! My first time wirh fiberglass was worse much worse! :)
On the second thought, now that you have a base, go and get the universal gauge pod for like 10$ from any kragen pepboys, cut it and mold it together! and you will have the same as i have, look at my pix and you will understand what i mean :) good luck

you can use bondo but for the large dimples like you have i would jsut go ahead and use finberglass resin.... "bondo" brand makes a fiberglass "jelly" resin that would be easier to work with and shape... i used it to do a full repair on my sister in laws 5-series BMW... they bought it with a fiberglass M5 bumper, and she hit a tire that had blown out from a car infront of her... so it cracked all the way through... i used the good ol' fashioned resin to lay down some more glass and re-enforce the back but i used the jelly stuff to fill in the dimples and to make it all even... im not new to working with fiberglass, or composites period, but that "jelly" resin that bondo makes is definitely easier to work wih... not too bad on you're first attempt! clean it up and im sure it'll come out bitchin!

A+ for effort.....but I would try to angle it more so its facing more to the front and less towards the roof and then sand the sh*t out of it, fill craters with bondo, sand again and paint.

I tried to angle it more towards the driver, but the spacing would not allow more tilt. It was really tight b/t the A pillar and the inside of the vent (where the back of the actual gauge is)

@helitech - Thanks for the suggestion, I was thinking of using the resin but I wasn't sure. Now that you mention it I'm gonna try it.
@kievskiy - Thanks bro. Yours/Daft's was my inspiration for trying this. I'm def going to refine it. Once again, I'm just glad it fits into that vent hole. Had a b**** of a time sizing it.

A for effort. What size gauge is that? It looks huge. I don't know how you could make something look good in that location.

You dont need no sthinkin bondo. This with a little elbow grease should suffice.

Well it took me a couple tries trying to find a base for the fiberglass, finally I just bought a no-name brand universal gauge pod and trimmed it down so it would fit in that area. Because of the space constraints, I would have gone with a smaller gauge, mine is 52mm.

Daft did it in his A6 and his came out excellent!! I saw it, and I was really impressed.. Looked clean, and I asked who made it & where he got it. He made it and I was really impressed
But this one, I have to admit, was pretty bad. Can still be salvaged I guess, but practice using fiberglass, bondo, a grinder, a sander, etc elsewhere, and take aother stab at it...

LOL. I haven't had time to try again. I haven't noticed any condensation or anything. I asked Daft about that when I was researching myself, and he said no IIRC.
Soon as I get my garage in order, I'll be reattempting this.

looks like a cat took a dump in your vent!!
hahaha seriously tho...try making a new one now that u have the dimensions. did u use a cardboard tube under the fiberglass to give shape? i would try to have the fiberglass come up to the bezel of the gauge on the next one. and angled more. u have the basic dimensions down, so the next one should be easier...and wont look like a steaming pile on our dash haha!
