Dropped off the SQ5 at AWE-Tuning the other day!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Good morning fellas! I know many of us have been wondering what exhaust options will be available for our 2018 SQ5's. I am so happy to say that AWE Tuning is in their final stages of research & development for their new cat-back exhausts. My car is currently there for sound testing, fitting, photos and videos. Hopefully within a few weeks our questions will all be answered. Even though I have zero affiliation with AWE Tuning, I am a longtime customer of theirs from GIAC chips for my old A6 2.7T to a non-resonated exhaust on my B6 S4. Dane & Josh were nice enough to give me a tour of their facility which is incredibly impressive. I cannot tell you guys how excited I am to see and hear what the final product is like. These weeks will drag on sooooo slowly. I promise to keep everyone updated. It should be interesting!

Do you know if they are keeping the fake plastic covers for the exhaust tips?

I don't want to speak on AWE's behalf but they did say they were trying everything in their power to come straight out of the false cut-outs in the lower rear valance. However there are several important items in the way such as some sensors for the rear Pre sense and even a crash bar so their exhaust system will most likely turn down like the stock one. I will definitely keep you posted.

They are. It was going to be far too complicated and expensive to revise. Nemesis actually sent a 2018 SQ down to AWE for R&D a few weeks ago.

For the faux tip openings, I'm sure someone could Dremel them out with ease, and maybe come back with some grilles. Not sure what all that would expose though.

Why yes I was! I was getting my window trim wrapped in gloss black. Bringing it back as soon as I get the car back to have the lower front & rear valance and the grille wrapped also in black!

Did some digging and found an illustration. Lots of tech in the rear bumper for sure! 6 ultrasonic sensors and a number of radar sensors.

Picked up the car yesterday and got to drive it 85 miles home. All I can say is: WOW amazing stuff! It makes all the right sounds and really is incredible. I was given the option to go with either a resonated touring or non-resonated touring version. Since I have a baby on the way, I opted for the resonated version. It is subtle, but noticeable. It's loud but not obnoxious. There is zero drone at all speeds between zero and 80 mph (the most I was able to go yesterday). It adds a sort of exotic sound to the exhaust and really comes alive under full throttle. The car is filthy and we're expecting more snow again in NYC but I'll snap some pictures tomorrow if I can clean it up...or even if I don't. The guys at AWE were really awesome also. They did a great job. I wouldn't have left my car with any other company for a month of driving and testing. I know they made videos and took photos and I was told they should be available within a few weeks so keep a lookout for them. If I didn't have a kid on the way I would've probably gone with the non-resonated version. But for now, I will just keep smiling at each and every cold start-up! Let me know if you guys have any questions!
