Clutch Chatter Less Than 50miles on New Clutch

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey so I just had a Stage 2 Eurocode clutch and LWFW installed and picked it up Friday.

I have less than 50miles on the new clutch and I'm hearing a ton of clutch chatter only when in neutral. Goes away when pedal is pressed or in gear.

Car has 68,8XX Miles on it. I pretty much drove it straight home and haven't really taken it anywhere or gone over 3000 RPMs.

My Video below of what it sounds like.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phPTUjrhIRU

Second video of an example (Not my video but its what it sounds like and does that exactly!)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGo8WDW9mLY

NOTE: I also had Eurocode Transmission mount insert, 034 Street density mount, and USP SS Clutch line installed at the same time as well.

Is this normal? If its not normal what could this be?

Edit: No issues with shifting or going into any gear.

Is it supposed to be that loud? Also will it get quieter as it gets broken in?

That can't be normal....has to be something wrong with install or defective part. I would make contact with someone on the forum who has a LWFW or JHM/ECS to inquire about cars they've modified. I'd be ticked if my trans sounded like that after an install....

Not sure about that meat grinding low rumble chatter your experiencing. My car chatters here and there but itís a light clack clack clack but it doesnít sound like that. I have a SPEC 3+ and ECS lwfw. How does the pedal feel on engagement/disengagement?

Just went out for a short drive. No issues going through any gears. Did some testing and It pretty much is non existent when I get it to about 1k RPMs. idle at 700 its very noticeable 900 is slightly noticeable.

No. When I was in any gear and coasted while letting the RPMs get down to 700ish the sound will be there. Once I introduced any throttle it would go away. Between shifts the sound wasn't present.

Nope, please don't give bad advise like that, he will glaze that clutch in an instant. Clutch needs to be broken in first, at least 600 miles of city driving. After that launch whenever you want.

I had one installed about 8years ago on my mk1 TT...sounds like a helicopter sitting in neutral. The second I get the clutch pedal depressed it goes away. LW aluminum flywheel and stage 3 Southbend clutch. It was quite embarrassing for a long time until I heard that it is normal for them to chatter like that. Still zero issues with 50k miles and tons of hard launches.

For the ones that don't have the issue or have slight rattle. Can you post a video or message me a video please. Thanks

The more and more I'm looking into the lightweight flywheel rattle on idle or lower RPMs it seems normal in other cars as well. I was just curious if anyone had the same setup and if its normal for these cars.

I had a 2000 Trans AM and got a LWFW/clutch kit and had chatter on low RPMs in gear but no rattle in neutral.

I would honestly just do what the manufacturer suggest.

My lwfw on the b6 would rattle in neutral the worst and then when you press the clutch it stops. Held fine and I was told it was normal. I was told some installations get it worse than others. Either way I just planned on getting a stock flywheel from that point forward haha.

OP maybe the video makes it sound worse than it is but that does not seem normal. I had some light chatter in neutral (clutch in it went away) on my B7 S4 but that seems excessive. It was more like a *chich* *chich* *chich* *chich* sound where yours sounds like a rock was thrown in the bell housing.

I had a clutch install recently thatís making a sound at idle that sounds like a tapping. Pretty sure we isolated it to a flywheel that seems to have become slightly bent. This was a LUK flywheel but I am replacing the flywheel again and attributing this to a damaged part.

Just went to the mechanic and found out there was some play in the flywheel assembly. They're going to re torque it and i'll report back with updated sounds.
