Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Wife and I switched car yesterday. I took her Q7 to new Michelins installed. First time sheís taken my A6 since Iíve installed 21Ē wheels on it. Well she managed to curb the front driver side really badly and hit a pothole and popped the tire on the front passenger side. Uuuugghhhhhh.......

Man o man. I'm not sure if I should laugh because it has happened to me or cry because the additional time you must put in to get her fix and aligned. In the end of the day she's da BOSS or CFO!

id definitely say this will be subjective. lol for me, if someone is to drive my car....they better be 1) respectful and responsible and 2) must know how to drive (not have a history of drama driving. lol)

Hesitently yes, but I lift the car suspension up and change the tune beforehand. At the end of the day its just a car and she was ok with purchasing it, so we should both be able to enjoy it. I educated her on the parking sensors and use of video when parking so as not to damage the front end, which is my biggest concern. I must admit though, I do get nervous when she takes it!

I feel bad for some of you guys having to be so tenuous. My wife drives my car regularly, and she's a great driver. I have no significant qualms with her driving my car.

My wife and I have a deal... If she drives my car and damages anything, I get to replace with upgraded components.

Curbed wheel = New forged wheels for me :)
Pop a tire = New Michelins all around.
Scrape my bumper on a parking block/curb = RS7 bumper

I was going to say 'not yet, but plan to let her drive it'. Now I'm not sure. Ha ha. She never wanted to drive my Porsche, which was a lot lower than this car. But this car definitely appeals more to her, since it's not nearly as low nor as hard on the suspension. She's a pretty good driver for a woman, so I wouldn't be terribly worried, but the good news is she doesn't like to drive it without me, and have zero issues driving with me, so we'll see how that goes. Going on our first trip (and a long one at that), so we'll see how it goes. Hope the stupid MMI doesn't act up again though; not being able to listen to music for 12 hours (each way) would really suck.

The RS7 in my signature is mine and is entirely available for my wife to drive; she hasn't so far exercised that with this car. My wife fully understands the difference between how she sees/treats a lump of metal with an engine in it and how I do--the former viewpoint being "it's a lump of metal with an engine in it", the latter is closer to a 3rd child. My wife also happily acknowledges that the way she feels about cars is reflected in the way she sub-consciously treats (or, perhaps better stated, protects) them--I suspect this strongly influences why she has yet to drive it--the other factor likely being because she couldn't care less.

Who drives my car, though, isn't about age or gender or ... it's exclusively about my personal/subjective/selfish assessment of their ability to not hurt it.

Anyone Let Your Wife Drive Your Car?

She takes my car here and there if needed so itís normal. It was just terrible luck she ran directly into a pothole first time driving it with the new wheels. There wasnít even a scratch on the wheel. The tire just popped. Me and a coworker couldnít see any bends on it either. Hopefully I wonít need an alignment nor new bearings anytime soon.

Ordered new tire. Gonna laugh it off and move on.

A benefit to owning a manual transmission...wife doesn't drive stick. But now having a C7-S6, no manual option. I try to scare her from wanting to drive my ride. Audi: are you listening? Give the boys manual!

I laughed at this thread and my wife asked what I was laughing about, I mistakenly commented what it was about and argument ensued, obviously she would like to drive the car more than I thought and feels I do not let her or I strongly encourage her not to yada yada, so now I am in trouble and likely need to buy her a fun car of her own so that I can maintain some sense of sanity

My wife drives all my cars because Iíve taugh her how to drive. She could drift my old sc400 and my RB26DeTT 240sx like a monster. When I had the awe exhaust installed on my A7 I had her drive it and told her to beat the hell out of it so I could hear how it sounded. It was funny I could barely keep up in my 08 g35X. We had a snow storm and we were both driving, her in the A7, I started drifting turns and go figure she came whipping right past me sideways. If you teach her how to drive you donít have to worry about her driving. Plus, if she enjoys cars then both of you win

Oh wow. Your wife probably drives better than 80% of the men on here, myself included. How long before you knew she was a keeper? My wife canít tell the difference between an A4 or A6 but probably like IowaRS7ís wife can spot the slightest difference from one Louis or Chanel from another like we can with cars.

Wife is a no-brainer. If she wants to drive it, it's hers to take. And although she is an excellent driver, she's intimidated by the RS7 so would rather not drive it. Taking this question a step further, I had my oldest daughter drive my S6 exclusively for the first two months of her Learner's Permit period (I had to be in the car with her per Maryland law) thinking that if she can handle the power and complexities of the S6, the used 2.0 A4 she was going to drive would be a walk in the park. Worked thus far: three years of driving and not a single incident. Just two more daughters to train...

my wife doesnt like how harsh my car feels. that's the answer. lower it more, lower profile wheels so they hate driving it. haha. she hated my b5 stage 3 b/c it was stiff like a rock and you could feel every thing on the road (which i like).

My wife and I swap out my S6 and her S3 from time to time. My Cayman GTS is "mine". She has driven it rarely but doesn't want to be responsible for any potential damage.

I always let her drive my car. She loved the S6 but had a little anxiety driving it as she was concerned something would happen to it while driving it. She prefers her Escalade sitting up higher as she's been driving SUV's for over 20 years now.

My wife just drove mine today for about 10 miles for a quick mall run. She is always welcome to drive my car but hates it when I am in there with her cause I can't help it but coach..sigh.

She can drive it whenever she wants to cause she is good driver. I just fear she will get a ticket in it because she has a very heavy lead foot.

I also have a tendency to "coach" my wife when she's driving - it pretty much infuriates her when I do! But she's actually a very good driver although prefers to let me do most of the driving when we're together. Meanwhile, speaking of wives, I just spotted this on a gun forum I spend time on ... One must know one's priorities!
