Question iPhone 6S MMI BT Compatibility?

    Car - 2008 A6 (C6) with MMI
    Phone iPhone 6S

I can connect my iPhone 6S to the MMI through the bluetooth and when the phone rings it mutes the stereo system but I can't hear the phone call through the speakers and the caller can't hear me through the microphone (which I'm assuming is installed).
I can however talk over the phone directly.
I'm using the speaker (aka handsfree) on the phone itself.

Thoughts as to why I'm only getting partial connectivity?

If I can't fix it I can fix it so nobody can fix it.

It looks like this is an iphone issue - once the call is made I need to select the AUDI MMI (versus speaker or handsfree) on the phone.
If I can't fix it I can fix it so nobody can fix it.
